Transition from Plant mechanic to operator

I started operating farm tractors at 13 years old and parents couldn't get me off the seat. I was told I needed to get a "formal education" which took time but allowed me to see the world as a Heavy Diesel Mechanic. No matter where you go there is a need for a fix it man/woman. I have...

    Terex PT 30 drive motor

Up date on the Terex PT 30. It was the key way that let go in the end but couldn't re use either the drive hub or the motor shaft so replacements were ordered, apparently there were updates done and as mine was a "later" one with the larger more expensive shaft! always the case. We took the...

    Terex PT 30 drive motor

Hi Guys, my little PT 30 has a problem with the RH side drive motor, I suspect the worst that the motor has failed. As usual it wasn't me operating but had lent it to a "friend" who called to say it wouldn't run anymore. I have a spare outside support bearing as it was making a noise a week...

    ASL300/RC-30 Loses power when digging.

Is the water trap - pre filter not blocked, they are in a #$%^ of a place and often get over looked, I found out the hard way. On my PT 30 it is on the LH side of the hydraulic tank under the fuel filler tube.

    RC30 not getting fuel

I had the same issue with my PT 30. Think there could be a better location to place a serviceable item. The Oil filter isn't much better to get at tho! ... But still can't find anything else that does the job that this does.

    T110 bobcat

I was looking at doing the same thing, got a Terex PT 30, great for tight spaces and gets about well and easy to use but, talk about high maintenance, worse than my ex wife!! I'm having to replace the axles as the rubber torque arms are worn, having a think as replacements are over $3000 for a...

    Best Mini Excavator?

I have not long purchased a new Kobelco sk 17 (same as yanmar and new holland) has a 4 year 4000 hr warranty which sealed the deal. Only thing is fuel tank a little small as have to fill each day. Runs well and always surprises what it can do. Did look at kubota, cat, yanmar, IHI but cat and...

    New Mini Excavator

I have down sized a bit, and working in the domestic arena, chosen on a couple of key points, 4 year 4000 hr warranty, access both sides of the machine, which is good in tight places, same as a Yanmar but blue? Runs great and doesnt feel like running a small machine, as one would expect from a...

Help me stay alive building road with TD-18

Great job, so much satisfaction seeing older gear still doing the job! PS I got to drive an IH scout almost identical in California when I was over there in '94 but it had a 6 cylinder nissan transplant. Like to see more of the Dozer and the "crossing" the Gov here does't like dirt in creaks...

Need input-- using conveyor system to move material on reclaim jobs

Interesting thread, I have just purchased a "miniveyor system" still waiting for it to turn up on a boat somewhere between England and the Pacific! After a lot of thought and advice on contracting the common theme is 1 you need customers! 2 you need "point of difference!" ... So I am being...

    Avant Compact Loaders

Hi there lumberjack, you are correct it has an all metal body, this is an earlier version so no plastic here! Not looking at the tag, if I remember correctly 2008 year, done 2600 hrs , have the 4 in 1 bucket, extension arm, 18 and 12 inch augers, and set of pallet forks. Has switchable aux...

    Avant Compact Loaders

My "new to me" Avant 520 as I am doing more work around houses and a normal skid steer won't fit where I want to go. Thought about a "stand up" but a comment from some of my customers about what I can do compared with a "dingo" has sealed the deal. I also now have a Terex PT 30 but haven't...

    Used 740B hours vs. Uptime

An interesting thing I found was application of the truck. We have 2 quarries close to each other but very different. One has their trucks carting full down hill to the crusher, the other is carting full up hill (out of a hole) to the crusher, both do similar hours but ... the one carting down...

    massey ferguson mf50 backhoe

Those hex head bolts can be frustrating. I use a tool called an "attack driver" made by KOKEN in Japan. Very good quality. If you google "koken tools" you should find it as a reference. Mine doesn't have the fancy hand grip. Make sure you have it set on "L" for Left or Loosen. Make sure...

Hi there, If you are still looking I have a manual for a 50HX series S mine is 1990 but should be close. Mine parked up at home here with water contamination in the hydraulic oil from bad seals on the backhoe ram. Fun and games

Looking to buy Skid Steer Forestry head

Gudday all, I am looking for advice on skid steer tree mulching attachment. Due to the hills I will be working on I have eliminated fitting a mulcher onto my digger and looking at the skid steer method. I am going to look at a Mustang 2109 skid steer and have seen good and bad reports on...

    Best throttle position?

I remember my first TEREX experience, one of the "older" operators took me aside and said do you know how to operate that Green Machine? ... Yep, when it makes smoke and noise its working! ... Wrong! ... First place your hand in the door, use other hand to slam door on first hand! ... now your...

    Best Excavator Buckets

Have to add the Kiwi made BAS tilt bucket takes abuse well, I am the second owner, line bored and bushed, some cracks now (12000 hrs) and just welded new cutting edge. Gets used for all sorts not designed for tilt buckets, but I don't think there is a bucket that hasn't been used as a hammer out...
