    proper track tension

The chart in this article seems to give a pretty good ball park. http://www.fortusgroup.com.au/news/5-tips-to-extend-the-life-of-your-rubber-tracks So between 3/4 and 1inch sag should be right.

Bobcat 430 ticking noise from housing

My Komatsu PC30mr-1 makes that same ticking noise just as you described it. I bought it second hand at 3700hrs and now has done 4400hrs and it hasn't changed with 700hrs so i'm not worried about it. When i first got it, it was really noticeable but i greased it really good and it got heaps...

Aluminium ramp width, for 3.5 ton excavator?

I just bought the ramps this afternoon, i ended up going with the lighter narrower ones.(350mm)(33kg) I was just about to order the wide ones but called the actual manufacturers to check the weight and they said at least 42kg( another 4kg than what i was told) and didn't look as good quality.

Aluminium ramp width, for 3.5 ton excavator?

Yeah same, i think its the best way.

Aluminium ramp width, for 3.5 ton excavator?

Yeah i think i will go with the wider ones. Seems like unloading in the rain could be a really pain with only a inch clearance either side of the tracks, and it probably would be annoying having to measure the ramp spacing every time i was to unload.

Aluminium ramp width, for 3.5 ton excavator?

I'm getting ones rated 3.5 ton 3.5m long so im just really worried about the narrow width possibly being anoying. I'm use to big 6 ton ones but can't move them round well due to a herniated disk in my back.

Aluminium ramp width, for 3.5 ton excavator?

I'm buying some new ramps very soon, maybe even tomorrow. My excavators rubber tracks are 300mm(12 inch) wide. My two ramp choices are: One that's 350mm(14inch) internal. weighs 33kg(73lb) The other 400mm(16inch) internal. weighs 38kg(84lb) I want to get the lightest one because of my...

    No oil in Final drive

I'm definitely no expert, but if that happened to me i would change the oil, run it for a bit, then change it again and see if there is any metal in the oil. If there was metal, maybe you could repeat that with a thin oil a couple of times and it could flush any particles out even better...

Pros and cons of 5 ton excavators vs. 3.5 ton

Good to hear, I think those kx121 look like good machines and its great you have a thumb, I have seen some for sale with over 7000hrs! So they must last. You can still stump with the 12 inch bucket and sometimes you might have a big stump that you won't reach the deep roots and have to dig it...

    Excavator dump trailer

What do you guys recon would 3 ton capacity be to heavy to pull with my 3 ton excavator? My property isn't flat so might have to go up and down some kind of slopy dirt tracks.

    Excavator dump trailer

Thanks for putting the pic up scrub. It looks like it would hold a good size load. I think I would have to make mine more top heavy so it could dump the load under its own weight without having to disconnect it. I wonder if it would be dangerously top heavy if I made it the width of my...

    Excavator dump trailer

Sounds like you have a fair bit of experience with these, if you get a chance put a photo up, it would be great to see what they looked like, and might give me a better idea of how it should be designed. What wheels did you use on them? I was thinking of using two light truck ute wheels...

    Excavator dump trailer

That's a good idea about designing it so i'm able to unload material from it, i didn't even think about that. There is one down side to having a trailer as apposed to spending the money on a dumper, its that if i had a big job i could have a guy working for me on the dumper making money off...

    Excavator dump trailer

I was thinking of making a dumping trailer for my 3 ton excavator. But thought i would see if anyone has any experience using one and if they thought it was worth it? I'm always tracking tons of rocks or dirt on my property and on jobs and don't have a skid steer or truck, and the dumpers...

    Axial shimming boom/dipper/linkage

In my manual for my 3 ton komatsu excavator it said the max clearance limit between all the pins and bushings is 1mm, and said to make sure the boom and arm are shimed so that there is less than 1mm gap. But in my experience 1mm of wear in the bushings is really slopy (atleast in a 3ton) and...

    Takeuchi TB016 swing play problem

It doesn't look great, but i once looked at buying a cheap 3 ton with worse play, i wouldn't be surprised if it keeps working fine like that for a long time, i think if you get the work shop manual there would be acceptable limit for that play, and would give you an idea of whats normal for the...

    15w-40 engine oil for hydrulics

I didn't even know they had multi grade hydraulic oil, just looked them up then, they sound like a good idea. I ended up changing it to 15w40, it seems to be working well, and i'm not 100% sure but i think my pump is quieter now. As for it solving the problem of the sticking valves, i will...

Pros and cons of 5 ton excavators vs. 3.5 ton

I had a very similar situation with choosing a machine for my property, only having a 3.5 ton capacity truck, i ended up getting a 3 ton partly because it was a good price. I've done a huge amount of work with it and has been very useful. That being said, I could have done all that work with...

    15w-40 engine oil for hydrulics

Yeah i was originally going to swap it to 68 but looking at some viscosity charts the the 15w40 looks even better in extreme heat, the weather does get hot hear, in summer days over 40c isn't uncommon, around 35c often. Prob wouldn't hurt to have another oil cooler or fan but will prob sell...

    15w-40 engine oil for hydrulics

I've seen some Valvoline 'diesel' 15w40 here cheap so might go with that, i assumed diesel would be the 'type' but here there are lots of 15w40 types, some say just for diesel or just for petrol with different additives, but maybe it would't matter, can't find all that much info regarding engine...
