Looking HARD at purchasing a 100T portable track pin press......anybody use one and have thoughts??

Brother, sounds like you got 'er all figured out with the regard to 336 track work you seem to be working on a lot...lots of people come on here with questions looking for advise and such...same people get responses with years of cumulative experience/advise and then just want to debate it. Hope...

    Shrinking bores with heat

Also, meant to add above that I agree with most said regarding the pin bosses and such... not so sure a .020-.025 bore reduction is achievable regardless of technique/method by heating. Regards, Bob

    Shrinking bores with heat

Just did some stick, bucket pin and bush work on a 490D a couple of weeks ago for a fella and we measured .068" vertically between the boom and house... since it is a low use machine, we will measure it again in a year or so and see what the indicator reads. If it is significantly worse, we will...

    Walker's work doing's

I'm sold on the "oil retention" pockets! It's know wonder bearings eventually fail...they were never engineered with "oil retention" pockets to begin with! Regards, Bob

    Turbocharger weirdness

If the injectors were not adjusted after installation?...I would do that first, otherwise you could end up chasing your tail! Regards, Bob

Why do some line bore repairs not last?

I agree with you Theweldor with respect to increasing pin support surface area... Sometimes increasing pin diameter is another option. Mass seems to be "king" generally when it comes to machinery! Regards Bob

Why do some line bore repairs not last?

Qw, it is interesting that you have been able to gauge the wear in the pins/bores by work type to hours in service. I don't get a lot of "data" before or after bore repairs that I do...I by no means know enough to be a SME on line boring specifically... I do enough L.B.ing to find there are...

My wife bought me 4 new pair of overalls and this.

Thanks Volvomad, it has worked out pretty good... eventually I would like to have an "on the bar drive" machine for those tight spots and greater torque for larger bores. Regards, Bob

My wife bought me 4 new pair of overalls and this.

Doing a grapple and link today with my old "home made" rig...sure wish I had a shiny new blue one of one of those! I would be happy to "road test" the new unit for you :)

hydraulic repair - kits for plugs/caps and pressure testing

The 779 uses JIC for most connections with the largest being #12's... the reservoir and filters may use some pipe tapered fittings. Regards, Bob

75/25 or 90/10 for welding loader arm?

Steve, Several years ago I was pushing banks back with my old W20B, it was a sub-zero Jan. afternoon, hit a some hidden bedrock (hard enough it put me up on the steering wheel)...raised the boom up to dump the load of snow and realized pretty soon what I broke by how crooked the bucket was.:eek...

    Case 580 smoking from places

Had to replace the main machine harness on a CX 130 this summer for the same reason... ended up being the ignition switch sticking in the crank position. The pull and hold coils in the fuel shut off solenoid naturally have less current while cranking than while running...the pull coil cannot...

    Cummins M11 missing and smoking

I guess that I am not in the position that a lot of you are in... if a customer brings me a pile of crap to fix, I usually won't say"no" (I try not to turn work down)... I do always ask "do you plan on sending this machine down the road in the next year, or plan on running it for the next 5-10...
