I think his demeanor went a long ways in defusing a sensitive situation. Kudos on you cuttin edge.

I washed the Grader today. Found an old nail in a tire. Had been there a long time. Tip finally breached the steel and started a slow leak. Worked for an hour trying to get a plug in the hole. No luck. Had to call the tire shop to come fix it. Assume they'll take it apart and patch it but...

Can you run it on "float"? Our State uses one. Their operators don't seem to care much about details. I've saw driveways that they "plowed" right thru. Man that would irritate me..... I dream of having open, relatively flat country to grade roads in.

Hopefully your new friend will pass on some tips in grader operation!!!! My question concerning infield size was to determine how much dirt we are talking about. So 65 x 300 x 1.5 = 29,250 cubic feet of material that needs moved. That's 1083 cubic yards. That's considerable. Gonna require...

    Grading different soil a

When I started I had no idea how to run a grader. But I've always been mechanical in thought. I was 35 yrs old. A man 25 yrs my Senior was a good friend and a Township Grader operator. I visited with him a few times with basic questions. At that time he was running an old Champion grader...

    Grading different soil a

In Missouri if you can make a 2" cut in undisturbed clay you are a champ. I've also used the end of the sloped blade to gouge soil loose then flatten the moldboard and push it away. Doable but painfully slow. Once I get a full load I roll the moldboard fully back to get under the material...

    Grading different soil a

I've moved a LOT of dirt with a grader. Patience is required. Wish you were nearby, I'd loan you my 95HP FWA tractor pulling a 5.5 cuyd scraper. So what's the size of the infield in sq ft? You mentioned 300ft but not in a descriptive enough way to discern the size of field we are talking about.

    Spring/summer works

I got a Cell phone 15 years ago. Mostly to reassure my family. They worried about me running the grader at night in a storm if something went wrong. 30 years ago I had a breakdown and had to walk 4 miles in a snowstorm for help. I've gotten used to carrying a phone now and I use it often...

    Spring/summer works

I've had a disaster the past two years with my Township Board. No malicious mismanagement. Just incompetence. Not completing the quarterly Unemployment Contribution report to the State for example. Have been sued by the State 3 times. $400 penalty each time..... So I got a new board on...

    Spring/summer works

MODOT is resurfacing some roads in my area. Overlaying asphalt. At the bridges they "mill" the surface removing previous overlayment down to concrete. Then lay asphalt to match the road surface at the ends of the bridge. So they end up with a couple dump truck loads of millings. At a bridge...

    Spring/summer works

In Western Kansas/Eastern Colorado I've saw graders with a drag on their rear ripper. Very handy for them on their wide, relatively flat roads.

    Spring/summer works

I've built a lot of short driveways. Never one quite this long. But it's all on a ridge with no culverts required. Should be pretty simple. I'm waiting on a rain shower to move thru this morning.

    Spring/summer works

This coming week I'll start on a project to build .3 of a mile of road on a ridge thru a corn field to a house build site. The owner ran a vertical tillage tool over the area to chop up the corn stubble and loosen the top soil. I'll windrow it to the sides and then elevate the roadbed a foot...
