    Puzzled

I can tell you Tinkerer that in my class we do teach these processes. We dont use stones anymore we use carbide cutters. Still use the valve grinder. As far as what Pushbroom stated, I have not had very good luck with CAT reman heads, They seem to be 2-3 days out and cost a little more tan me...

Cat 740 transfer case oil in front diff

I work on a lot of 740's and have had several of the A-frames out. I dont have a special puller to separate the tapered pin from the spherical bearing. I use a 25 ton cylinder, put some pressure on A-frame the a quick smack with a 15lb brass sledge it pops loose. The hardest part in my opinion...

    LINEBORING INTEREST/QUESTIONS???

RayF gives great advice. I myself started out as a mobile service and added line-boring/welding after years of turning wrenches. My main source of line-boring comes from Quarries and a medium sized excavation company. I dont charge any differant than I do when turning wrenches. Might sound crazy...

    Cat 289D, No AC

install your gauge set and check static pressure. With the machine not running and and with a 70* ambient temperature the high and low gauges should both read equal pressure of around 70psi. That will verify a pressure issue. I think that machine also uses what is called a dely timer which...

    Cat 289D, No AC

If you changed the fuse and relay was the fuse blown? If so I would start at the compressor first before checking pressures or looking for leaks. Put a DVOM on the ele connector to the compressor and see if the coil is shorted out. It has been a common problem with the compressors lately for the...

    Ouch

I would say you are on target with what happened. 3 bolts hold the bearing tight against the tapered pin. When the A-frame fell put driveline in massive bind and broke drop box. The bolts must have been out or broken for a long time the last bearing I did had to put about 20ton of pressure to...

    Becoming an instructor

I started teaching at a Vo-Tec 13 years ago. I did not have to have a degree in education but had to take 16 hours so they could teach me to teach the basic educational stuff, (special needs students and the laws governing them, writing good lesson plans and implementing them effectively) I also...

    some work pictures by BuMach

I like how you use the stingers when welding. Makes for a very professional job just cut them off when done and edges are perfect. More people should be doing that as well.

    Moving cars

A company I do a lot of work for has had about every brand of tracked compact loaders. Their favorite by far has been the Takeuchi TL140. Second would be the Bobcat. The ones they had the most trouble with where CAT 247,257 machines with the boogie wheels and crappy tracks that loose the rubber...

    Welded Thumb Plate

If you want a really good 2 part sealer 3M 8115 panel bonding adhesive would be my recommendation. It's about $40 a tube but very strong, heat resistant, moisture repellant, and chemical resistant. The gun is the expensive part but if you know a body shop guy he might loan you one.

    1" impact recommendations

I have to agree with a lot of the others. IR all the way. The last one I bought new I think was around $900 6 years ago. I did get a good buy on a Sunnex 1" extended anvil on E-bay. It was a new gun in the box and ended up paying $80 for it. I had never used that brand before but it works very well.
