    1974 Case 530B - engine serno

Thanks pumpguy; so it is supposed to be a placard. I'll have to crawl around some more.

    580B steering wheel won't turn

sounds like the pump is shot. try what Coy said, lift the wheels using the bucket. if the reservoir is full but the wheels don't turn or barely move, i'd guess pump is gone. or plugged.

    1974 Case 530B - engine serno

Is the picture shown where the engine serno should be? The small oval area below and slightly to the left of the power steering pump? I scraped off a little bit of the paint and it was just bare metal, no stamp or placard. Thanks JBP

    Case 74 580B won't start

Hello. The 580 was smoking out the blow-by quite a bit, big white cloud. Was slowly blowing more and more each time I used it. temp was staying at 180 or lower, and oil pressure was 70+ at start up, then hanging at 50 hot and under load, and 30 or so idling. One day it just would only pop as...

    1974 580B Fuel problems - Unsteady RPMs

Would water in the fule cause the RPMs to be unsteady or just shut down the engine? When I removed the water trap plug (T-handle) on the fuel tank, nothing drained out. Bone dry. Can I use a dental pick or wire to clear that out? JBP

Removing 1974 Case 580B Swing Cylinder

Xpack, that's the part I did not understand; the flatstock was on the bottom, solidly bolted in place. Now the other pin wasn't welded so the flatstock did its job for that pin, so I don't get the welding. Fortunately the welding was not very deep. I do have to do a bit of grinding to get rid of...

Removing 1974 Case 580B Swing Cylinder

Then what? Hello Tinkerer. I have taken the cross beam off the swing cylinders, but if I don't need to go down this road any farther, what do you mean by get the pin out and unscrew the gland (see attached). I have not disassembled one of these before, and don't know the terminology that...

Removing 1974 Case 580B Swing Cylinder

Hello. Its been a while. Digging up stumps, blew out the left swing cylinder seal. Does anyone have any warnings or tricks for me when I try to remove the swing cylinder? I cannot find any exploded-view diagrams that show how this all goes together (or comes apart). Photo of the cylinders...

Case 580B 1974 - hoe boom keeps dropping

Well I got 8 stumps up before a hose burst. Still have not figured out the boom dropping problem. Beautiful day to do it.

Case 580B 1974 - hoe boom keeps dropping

Shimmy1, Gotcha! I initially was not having any success with that. Reason being that one of the hydraulic lines was pushing the the lever release handle back. So even though I was getting the hoe back, it wasn't locking, and I was just thinking 'still didn't get it quite enough' each...

Case 580B 1974 - hoe boom keeps dropping

Shimmy1, the boom will not come back far enough for the hinge pins to get engaged in the hook loop. Ends up a couple of inches away and then the hydraulics reach 'end of stroke' or whatever the correct term is, and the engine starts struggling. And the boom hydraulic cylinders look to be fully...

Case 580B 1974 - hoe boom keeps dropping

Well I tried to pull the spool out to check that first. Turns out the hydraulic feed line is right in the way below it. Then I had to split firewood for the rest of the day, so no more progress. Plus I need to buy some larger wrenches for the lines that are going into the valve/spool assembly...

Case 580B 1974 - hoe boom keeps dropping

Guilty. Like I said, a noob. I haven't done that too many times. But would driving the backhoe around without locking the boom upright all the time be something to accelerate the wear on the cylinders? Should I look to get the right length cylinders so I can lock the boom upright? ka-ching I'd...

Case 580B 1974 - hoe boom keeps dropping

I'm very much the noob on these machines. Can you walk me through what you're saying to try here. What does 'backing it all the way off" mean? So if you look at the photo I posted, you're saying I could swap the boom lines with the dipper lines on the tower and see if the problem stay with the...

Case 580B 1974 - hoe boom keeps dropping

time to fall El Hombre, when I retract the boom fully, it will stay up for a minute maybe. Once it starts the motion of going down, it only takes about 30 seconds. If that.

Case 580B 1974 - hoe boom keeps dropping

68 Case 580K, I haven't noticed leaks around the tower. Photos of the tower controls. . The boom control valve is the leftmost. No leaks on the boom cylinders either. Also, the boom cylinders are not the originals, and are too long to let the boom retract enough to engage the 'lock'.
