    Bull dozing with a skidder

I'll get a few pics up shortly. Btw, I've held off from buying a skidder. I need to build this house first. Then the grapple skidder comes :)

    best time to dig basement?

Thanks everyone for the sound advice. I can see now that there could be issues/problems with digging in the fall. I'll heed the good advice and hold off until spring. Muchas gracias.

    best time to dig basement?

I intend to build my house in the country when the frost comes out of the ground in the spring, and around this part of Canada that will be in late April or early May, depending on how much snow cover we get. An operator told me that it's not a bad idea to dig a basement in the fall and leave...

Driving My chainsaw - Jonsered 2045 Turbo

Now she is my kind of girl. Where can I find her? lol

    Bull dozing with a skidder

Well, I brought in a D6 to do the job and I'm glad I did. It made short work of the brush and stumps, but under the top soil was a mixture of sand and gravel and boulders, many the size of garbage cans. The dozer operator said it was one of the toughest small sites he has ever done.

    Husquvarna still or Ecco

That kind of question will generate a certain level of cheerleading from some. But to try to be objective. Both Husky and Stihl have a good reputation. The differences are slight and choice would come down to personal preference. Go on dealer. And btw, don't forget Jonsered.

    SOUTHSTAR Processing head.

Indeed, everyone has a right to an opinion, but if that opinion is offensive toward others others, and that includes companies of course, then I believe we should learn to carefully speak our minds or keep it to ourselves. Differences of opinion and robust discussion is at the heart of a...

    SOUTHSTAR Processing head.

I'm afraid to say that your statement has no validity and your credibility is questionable. People on this forum are not as gullible as you assume.

Perfect Cat dozer for land clearing jobs???

I just had a D6 from a nearby gravel pit on my property for a day to clear about 2 acres of stumps and level the site. I can't recall the model of the machine but I can remember the operator saying it was about 10 years old, so not that old by most standards. It made short work of the fairly...

Looking for a purchaser of veneer/plywood logs in Ontario/Manitoba/Minnesota.

Does anyone know of a mill buying veneer/plywood logs? Years ago I sold some to Columbia but they have since closed down as far as I know.

    Bull dozing with a skidder

I've been out of the trade for 20 years, but I remember using the skidder for clearing some land to bring in a logging truck. The blade on my TJ350 was narrower than the wheels which didn't help the situation. But like you said, I think it's still possible. And I agree, we sometimes find an...

    Bull dozing with a skidder

I've got to spread a mound of soil around on my property. The soil consists of mostly sand and gravel with a little bit of top soil and the area is only about 50' by 50' and 3 to 4' deep. I'm thinking about buying an older skidder to do the job rather than bring in a D4 dozer for a day. Do...

Bad day for dump trucking. Driver positions now available

What do personal rights have to do with political correctness? Either you have respect for others or you don't. I'm afraid to say you're another one who doesn't respect others or yourself. Others and you included have a right to be respected. In fact, the only one who needs to grow up is the...

Bad day for dump trucking. Driver positions now available

You're changing the topic. But to answer your question, I am against any form of abuse, verbal or physical, against anyone, whether they're young or old, male or female.

Bad day for dump trucking. Driver positions now available

Chewing out someone is abusive, and if you don't understand that, it says a lot about you, that you don't respect others and probably not yourself.

Bad day for dump trucking. Driver positions now available

I can understand that you were upset and immediately let someone go, but I would be more careful about who you hire and how you treat others when they make mistakes. We all make mistakes but raising your voice and chewing someone out can be dangerous. Some guys are unpredictable, so consider...

    Career change

The forest industry in Canada has all but died. I'm in my early 50's and looking at operating other heavy equipment. Operating an excavator is something I'm considering but I want to hear from others if getting the training (and it's not cheap) to run an excavator is worth it in terms of the...

Cable skidder Do's and Dont's ?!? Bought a skidder finally and could use some tips !

Keep the loads light and lower on hills. Be ready to drop the load if the load is pulling the machine. This happens on hills. On steep grades, it is best to winch up the load if the machine is small such as a C4. Do this in stages if you can rather than one long pull. And keep up with...
