Low budget 80 class excavator, bobcat 442 or stick with major brands

I hate to use this expression but "Size doesn't matter". I had a 5 1/2 ton Bobcat 335 and it did a lot of work. Popped massive black walnut tree stumps, tore down and rebuilt a mile of stone wall, demolished a barn, dug countless trenches, cleared a couple acres etc. Sure it may take a little...

Low budget 80 class excavator, bobcat 442 or stick with major brands

Never ran a 442, but the Takeuchi TB175 is a great machine. I wouldn't buy the TB070 myself as it is a MUCH more primitive machine than the TB175. I like the bigger Komatsu's but for what you have listed I think the Takeuchi TB175 would be the best choice.

How big of machine for land clearing

25-30 ton hoe. Definitely a hydraulic thumb. Agree with movindirt on the q/c and ditch cleaning buckets as well. Link Belt/Case, Deere, and Volvo are all great choices.

John Deere 323e or Takeuchi TL8 or TL10

If I were you I would go with the Kubota. I love the Deere skid steers, but the Kubota is a better machine. Taks are great for dirt work, but I would never buy one for a farm. Vertical Lift IMO is a must have on a farm.

20 Metric Ton, Tier 4 Final

A few things, first being the PC210LC-10 is NOT a tier 4 final machine, its tier 4 interim. The Tier 4 final Komatsu excavators are the -11 series. Have run a few Komatsus and liked them, not as much as Case or Deere, but nonetheless not a bad machine. I personally think the new Cat hoes are...

Hows the Case been treating you lately?

How much $$ to add a thumb?

Personally not a huge fan of the 2 series Cats. A lot of people are, but in my experience they aren't powerful machines. Never run a 215 though so can't say about that specific model. If I were you I would definitely go with the hydraulic thumb, had both and see no reason to buy a manual unless...

    Cat vs. Miller lawsuit

Not true... Samsung was bought out by Volvo, the rounded cab volvo's (before the B series) were repainted samsung machines. Link Belt (LBXCO) is owned by Sumitomo and their machines are repainted sumitomo's. Case is the same, just a repainted sumitomo. Not saying that is a bad thing as Link...

    Looking for excavator opinions

If you are going for around 2000, as others said Link Belt and Case are amazing machines. Deere and Hitachi are very good as well. The B series Cats are decent.

    Volvo 480 E

People seem to really like them. I haven't gotten the opportunity to check one out yet, but I have heard good things about them. It should be in the $600K range

    First generation hydraulic excavators?

Have a few photos of First Gen excavators. Run a 455 Koehring and a 466D Koehring. Have pics of them, a 466 Koehring, 1066 Koehring, 1266 Koehring, Bucyrus Erie 20H, and a Link Belt LS5000. Seen a lot more but haven't taken pics
