    So ues it can be done without pulling the boom apart. Take out the rear wear pads and prybar the mid section up to get clearance on the bottom of the sheave

    I have downloaded the manual. I didnt find a procedure for just doing the hoses. It had boom disassembly steps. Pulling the wear pads out i would understand. I'm more worried about if the fittings will make it through here on the bottom of the sheave or if i have to pull the pin to get clearance.

    alright, bringing up old stuff. the manual actually says to remove the output shaft to do the output seal replacement. that seems to be a bit extreme to me. but there is a retainer that looks to be a bitch to get out. someone already busted it up a bit.

    okay here is the follow up. got the pump and injectors reinstalled. We ran it from a separate fuel supply and the return into a separate jug, No change. had plenty of fuel returning from the injection pump into the jug. had black smoke from the exhaust like it was under a load. There was some smoke but i was running this @ night under LED work lights so i couldnt really tell you color or volume well enough...

    old square shooter 636 engine (JD4039D)

    This ones a 95 vintage so yeah same set up. thanks for the heads up on the pump coupling. I was wondering about going out the bottom. that'll be an interesting exercise in geometry. that or find some way to keep the boom held up while I work. thanks again for the input.
