    Oil loss on D4H

Trans fluid goes down to add mark in about 5 hours. I retorqued bolts on rear housing and that seems to dry up that leak. Hydraulic fluid will drop beyond sight glass in a hour or so. Blade tilt cylinders leak at packing. They might leak a cup of fluid in 5 hours . Not nearly as much as is lost...

The serial number is 9GJ as Bluox indicated. A additive in Hydraulic fluid indicates source. Might someone have a illustration or repair write-up they could share with me. I have not found hydraulic plumbing or pump on engine unless below crankshaft centerline.

    cat d8k muffler

I can remember people hunting down the location of sound from my old D8H. Backing up a steep incline, the sound rumbled through the valley for more the 5 miles. That is how far trucks drove from to locate. Then I backed over a Dodge Pickup my brother parked inappropriately. They saw from road...

    bucket adapater

Have a EX270 with hensley bucket. The right side adapter (boss?) is missing. It supports a 90 mm pin and is held by three bolts on outside. Local Hitachi dealer could not supply correct piece. What is the correct part name and is this available from other sources.

    "C" frame breakage.

Started playing with the D4H LGP last week. After a few hours of rather vigorous dozing, noticed the blade was unstable and frame towers were hitting the engine screens. Inspection showed the C frame was broke just to right of blade pivot pin. Further inspection showed it had been previously...

How big of machine for land clearing

A salesman once told me he has had numerous complaints from selling too small a machine. Converslally he has NEVER had a complaint of selling too large a machine. Hours are important and checking engine, hydraulic pumps, bearings (turntable) , controls, and pins. Cat is great for parts. Have a...

    Hitachi 270

My EX270LC with a earlier serial number seems to have parts readily available through local Hitachi dealer. Many parts come in JD boxes for some reason. My serial number seems to be 1580-06995 if someone could tell the year.

    Misrepresenting

I Agree with lantraxco. I would always be more intrested in meter working or not. So he cleaned out a ditch or something before it got to you. Year seems to never be easy. Even the auction companys get it wrong. Nop big deal in my opinion.

D5C Burst Hydraulic Hose on 6 way blade

An inspection of hose should give some incite on failure. With OE hose from 98 it could just be time for failure. Inspect all hoses for damage, twisting, binding, or corrosion swelling the hose.

Would you buy an excavator that had been under water??

Drowned machine. The difference here is th electrical components were replaced. I have resurected a D8 dozer (twice), C14a Excavator(twice), and a Dodge van. The dozer and excavator would up with no electical circuits that worked. I fixed the starters and jumped the solenoid for starting...

    Komatsu head bolts

If not discussed in manual, my gut feeling is reuseable. Lay thread across each other and look for strech.

    Hydraulic thumb

There are at least two suppliers of valving, hoses, ect beside the dealer. HKX is one. A company in Indianaplis(sic) IN build mine. Total investment was less than 8K dollars. Once got the cylinder placement correct and hoses/piping routed, it works fine.

Slobbering oil outta muffler pipe? D4D

Do not use "bonami" or any abrasive powder. One teaspoon is more than enough to dust a engine. Running hard and getting hot is far more effective. Partially blocking radiator with cardboard and working engine works well. Always monitor engine to keep from overheating (say 220 max degrees)
