The guy I was talking to retired about 20 years ago!

    16v149 Blowers

I have a pair of Detroit diesel 16v149 (8927895) blowers that I bought in order to get some other blowers that I wanted. I have been told that these would have been on mining equipment, which makes sense due to the size of the engines. These things are bigger than anything I would ever work on...

    Overload of the Day

When I was a kid we were driving in a 74 Ford Torino station wagon. We stopped for gas, and when leaving the rear bumper hooked a gas hose. It twisted the pump around and tore it up! I think that is one of the reasons for the modern bumper design and the breakaway hoses.

Anyone got a clue what this is?

It was one of the very first ATCs introduced. Honda later refined them a fair bit, and added pneumatic tires, which caused a bunch of accident law suits, and then they added a second tire in front.

    Backhoe tires

Yep, just Asian rubber, nothing you can do about it except buy better tires.

    1969 580CK

It seems like it couldn’t be hurt, but that equalizer cylinder is one of the most damaged parts of the loader. I watched mine in operation one day and figured out why. IIRC, when you are at full tilt and dropping the bucket there is no place for the excess fluid to go, so the pressure in the...

    crankshaft hardening

I have rebuilt a wide variety of motors and have never heard of it. I would bet that if you drive downtown, simply ask some of the girls loitering around if they know of anyone that can harden your crank. I bet they might know a few people who could for a relatively good price.

Max grade for a Case 580B

That is what my slope looks like. I am wondering if it was 22 degrees and not 22% grade. I was unable to get up there this last weekend due to forest closures, but I’ll remeasure next time.

Max grade for a Case 580B

I have some property up in the mountains. I have had my 8N up there, then later my Case 530. Both did okay at the property but struggled going up my road, which has a 22% grade for about 200 yards. Both of those tractors were manual transmission, and the 530 also had the Hi/Low box and manual...

New axles welded on, dog tracking

Maybe you could just put smaller tires on the side that is the outside of the curve and straighten it back up, or scootch you 5th wheel mount to one side.
