Where did you work on today?

Pictures being shared of excavator buckets close to piping in the gas compressor stations being shared are frowned upon. Ive spent the last few months working around major gas transmission piping. We are making capital improvements in areas with several different pipes besides the mains. Each...

    Paving the Sitka Airport

I have an Aunt and Uncle in Ketchikan. Ive visited twice. Beautiful country, even if it is wet

    Paving the Sitka Airport

Even more mind boggling is the fact that this work is on an Island. Now Sitka looks a little bigger than Prince of Whales, or Ketchikan, but it is a very remote environment. In most cases, before you get a machine off a truck, its taken a ride on a barge in a very unforgiving part of the world.

    Train wreck clean up.

I did a job at the old GTW car shops years ago. Its amazing how fast they run those trains through the tunnel. As far as dropping everything, down time on the rails is crazy expensive. A lot of the freight is just in time. They shove cars out of the way, throw panels in, and get rolling. Some...

How do you politely fire unpaid help???

Due to politics, and the nature of a training site, they need to be careful in regards to things that could be considered misuse of equipment, or in the case of fuel used, misappropriation of funds

    1050j john deere crawler 2008 5k hrs.

Basically a Liebherr if I remember right. Known to be plagued by electrical gremlins. Never ran one, but that is the consensus out there

Help on joining the Local 825

Hate to say it, you didn't follow the program details, or were far down on the list for one reason or another. As I stated, Apprenticeship programs are to follow certain Department Of Labor rules so the good old boy network of "being sold a book" no longer happens. Apprenticeship program...

Help on joining the Local 825

A quick search pulls this up. http://www.iuoe825.org/home/join/apprenticeship/ As it says, apprentices are taken on an as needed basis. This is based on retirement, work, and need projections. They will not take more apprentices than they can handle. Basically, they need to make sure there is...

    Cali genius (true story)

There are only two ways I know of to completely end your ownership of any contamination. At least in regards to contaminated soils. 1 would be incineration, but there may be some question that you technically still own the ash. 2 would be an environmental company in the Ypsilanti Mi area...

    Cali genius (true story)

Whats ironic is any "special haz waste" I've ever sent out that contains oil, from say a gas station, ends up at the landfill. Its all about the paper trail, even though its been hauled off site, the company or person responsible, will always own it, even with it in a landfill.

You are asking us something that no one here has the ability to determine. We have no idea, or any of the details of the structure

    slow down

Any new president will slow the market down for a year or two. Most businesses seem to panic, and hold off on any expansion for a year or two.

    slow down

Cat is restructuring everything just like the auto makers have. They are playing the give us a tax break we will move here. They are also outsourcing work. Plus with the end of the over the road trucks, there is some idling of facilities as well.

    Concrete Dam Removal

There is a significant difference in hammers. Check the foot lbs a hammer for your 200 size machine has vs the foot lbs a hammer for a 30 ton size machine. Then again, if you are running a rental hammer, those tend to have been abused. Just looking at the size of the structure, assuming there is...

Good relocatable buildings for equipment storage

Stack Shipping containers like legos as stated earlier. Use bar joists and sheet metal for a roof between boxes. Just make sure one side is slightly higher than the other for water to run off. Go one step farther and put roll up doors in the shipping containers like you would see at a self...
