    Inexperienced and Young Tech Egos

There’s a young cub working with us now. Our dept works with the big gear, 600t diggers so we don’t get many inexperienced people out here, it’s just too “dangerous” despite all the safety precautions on site. Young bloke who wasn’t even born when I finished my apprentice ship is like talk...

    Cat PPR2 track swagging

Hey. I have access to SIS but haven’t used it in years and I can’t seem to find the paperwork I need Had a Epiroc (atlas copco) pit viper 271 that has a set of these style tracks rock up for it. Years ago I fitted them to a Vermeer surface miner so recognised the style. At the time we had a...

    On the Road Again

:D yeah, sorry, I did mean bush. Only off Nighshift and the brain hasn’t quite re-aligned with reality. They may well have been aftermarket and it had just been line-bored. Not all liner borers are created equal as I’m sure some know. My first christmas off in about 7 years I think. Normally...

    On the Road Again

A fable I’ve heard before and one I learned the hard lesson with on main bucket pin on a 994f loader. Learned after that preheating is the only solution in that case. Nah, loads of nitrogen, and it had plenty of time. Problem was it was on the stick that was on the ground, main stick to boom...

    On the Road Again

Great pics Nige. Big parts win hearts as they say around here. Had a boom change out on a 9400 this week. No lips on the Liebherr pins. 24.5 bushes frozen and slotted in on one shift. Note the 0.5 :(

    Hydraulic Fittings (kinda)

Now this brought back some well suppressed memories. worked on a site where we had some machines with Wiggins and some with Banlaw and the service truck only had Banlaw. Had to have adaptors in he truck for every fluid and as you say, it ends up being a Christmas Tree

    On the Road Again

We have 5 996b and 6 9400 here that I work on. The 9400 aren’t too bad for the most part. The 996, they can test you! One thing I will say about Liebherr, the pins always come out and go in easy which is a blessing the way we go through cylinders!

    On the Road Again

I had thought about that, in peak summer ambient temp would be mid 40s for a few months. So far this year we have got away lightly as it happens. I think it may have something to do with services happening in pit. The service trucks have limited compartments so they “hedge their bets” a bit to...

    On the Road Again

Maybe it’s an aus spec but the ones I worked on had these remote mounted sight glasses. By the time the 460 oil got to the glass it had overflowed out the breather haha

    On the Road Again

I did like the 3600 for the most part. They do use hard piping a lot which gave us some grief as once the stauff clamps wear they start to crack the pipes. The swing boxes are a PITA to fill

    On the Road Again

Hahaha. probably very similar except Slidey senior has peaked at sending photos of the gear he is working on to me over WhatsApp, a forum would be double Dutch to him!

    On the Road Again

My old man was on the tools for 41 years and 1 day. Retired on sept the 2nd this year. Lasted less than 4 weeks before going casual for a local mob. Back doing 5 days a week now. No hobbies, doesn’t take to the drink, and my mother would have him herding cats at a crossroads if she has her way...
