    Brit logging.

Great pictures as always. Looks beautiful out there. As boss you need to be the one operating the machine, not stood outside freezing! For UK it was quite a cold snap, but we seem over the worst of it now. Just want it to stay dry. Graham

    Let's be careful

What gloves do you guys wear for detailed work in such cold conditions? I have thick gloves that keep my fingers warm, but for fine work I need thinner gloves and I really suffer and I’m not experiencing the sort of cold you do. Today was only a few degrees below freezing, but had my hands in...

    Paver For Parking Lot Maintenance

Don't know if you already own a skidsteer or mini loader, but if you do a paver bucket would be an economical way to get into it. https://www.norcar.com/en/tools/matrix-asphalt-surfacing-equipment There is video out there of one being used to aspalt domestic driveways, but I can't remember where...

After work, hobbies & life after the logs are loaded!

Dinghy sailing seems to have changed since I last went as a teenager!

    Chinese loader

You can't go wrong at that price for a yard machine. When you eventually have a major failure you can just scrap it. I'm sure it won't be too long before the Chinese up their game and produce good quality and the sort of spec people really want rather than just cheap. I can remember when...

    Some of my jobs...

Looks like you are having fun. Haven't even had to scrape my truck windows yet this winter. If we ever had conditions like you have the whole of southern England would grind to a stop. Graham

Compact wheel loader Vs Skid Steer

I have a Norcar 765 mini loader. Really excellent bit of kit. I hired both skid steers and mini loaders before buying to work out what suited me best. Mini loader won hands down. I often work on nice turf so pivoting turn doesn't tear up the ground. It will easily unload 1000kg pallets from...

BC logging equipment left to rust

Yes, I’m the same. I would rather someone else took over a machine rather than just leave it to rust away. I find it hard to understand why it is all just abandoned. I would have thought there was some value still left when they stopped working even as parts or scrap. Graham

    Quick Couplers/Quickhitches

They are great, but so expensive, you need plenty of the type work that it will save you time on or do away with a labourer to pay for it. It is amazing how much more efficient you make your machine with one, especially if you invest in a few attachments. Graham

Before you know it you will be going for a tiltrotator and doing it sideways as well! Graham

Sort of a barn find, 1931 in original condition

Looks a great find. I’m sure you will have lots of fun with it. Sounds a good price for what it is, i can’t imagine you could lose money on it if you ever had to sell it. Graham

    Thoughts on AutoLube Systems

I had autolube on a Volvo wheeled excavator (EW140). Over 8000 hours on it and the pins were like new. Yes, ripped lines out a few times (ripped hydraulic hoses off a few times as well), but a lot easier to fix than hydraulics. If I bought any new full sized machine that I intended to keep it...

    Interesting trailer

    That is some trailer. Graham

She is an impressive operator. Very good control of the trailer as well. Having the forks stowed in the front of the trailer works well as they are a right pain for falling over otherwise. Removing the steering wheel and controlling it with the levers is cool. Graham

    Replacing Operators with Technology

Mixing automated and pedestrians is asking for trouble. Normally automated warehouses don’t allow pedestrians in. One near me has no windows and operates in the dark to save on electricity.

I’ve operated plenty of Cats. Nice machines, but I personally preferred Volvo. In think the cab is a much more comfortable place to spend the day and found the hydraulics smoother. Never had a go in a Liebherr, but generally hear positive things about them. As you say lifting capacity would...

    Experienced wheeled excavator insight wanted.

I don’t know the details, but from what I hear she much prefers her Volvo, but I would guess they are a lot more expensive. I don’t think her trailer is a custom built one, but is a small farm trailer. The basics of using a tilt rotator are easy to pick up and after that it is just lots of...

Big singles are more squishy than twins so you need to be a smooth operator. I used to operate on sand dunes a lot, hence twins were hopeless. Ran a 1500kg empty screening bucket and hardly ever felt the need to put the blade down (I only had a blade, no stabilisers). It was too big when I got...
