Thanks for the replies! I'm still working on this, but it has rained almost every day for over a month and the ground is too soaked to walk on.

Change wheel/rim size on Ford 4500?

My Ford 4500 backhoe has 24" (8-bolt, 5-1/2" hub hole) wheels. A friend will give me some new tires that are about the same rollout as the tires on the 4500, but they mount on 26" rims. What is the best/cheapest way to get some 26" wheels on this old Ford?

How do I move dirt from 150 foot long bar ditch to fence line?

^^^ Good advice. If your property or any uphill neighbor's property drains into the bar ditch you might consider using a few drain pipes under the dirt you have brought in.

    Service Manual Trading Post

I could sure use both the repair manual and the operator's manual for my old Ford 4500. Thank goodness this forum is here or I wouldn't have any information at all about using or fixing this little jewel.

188D Engine rebuild question (dowel rings stuck in block)

I don't know why it works, but an old engine rebuilder told me about it when I first started building race engines about 45-years ago. I have used candle wax instead of PB Blaster type products on bolts, plugs and pins stuck in hundreds of cast iron engine parts...it has worked the majority of...

188D Engine rebuild question (dowel rings stuck in block)

Heating the cast iron block and melting regular candle wax on the stuck dowel or bolt usually works.

    OLD FORD 4500 for parts

Received brake and throttle parts yesterday morning from tuney443 and installed them yesterday afternoon. The Ford 4500 backhoe needed them so that it would be easier to use the loader while helping clean up the mess left by the Moore Oklahoma tornado. A big thank you to tuney443 for...

    OLD FORD 4500 for parts

What size are the tires? What size is the backhoe bucket? Do you still have the radiator grill cover? Are the seats good? Could you take a picture of the right side foot rest (plate) that the brake pedals are under? The plate and springs(?) that hold the brake pedals up is missing on my...

Doubt anyone can answer this question?

You might look into giving the tires to a business that builds houses out of them. http://earthship.com/Earthship-Designs/tire-building-code.html

looking to buy a backhoe, any advice

I use a Ford 4500 and the engine is louder than any of the other backhoes or tractors I have owned. There is an old thread on this forum that mentions how loud a 4500 is. It talks about "that famous Ford 4500 knock" or something to that affect... I'm glad I didn't let the noise keep me from...

Pointers on blowing a pull string through conduit

That works as long as the pipe uses O-rings and not glue to put the joints together.
