    Logging Railroads and their Equipment

Here is another photo of some of my CW models that I have painted. I also have 2 more GP 38-2s that I painted as well as one more caboose. That makes my late CW diesel roster all complete with the exception of the lone C-415 #684, which I hope to build someday. Best Regards Ryan Aust modeling...

    Logging Railroads and their Equipment

The photo may have been taken in 1978. But there is no way if it was in 1978 that it was at Vail. The 684 was issolated from the Vail-South Bay operations between the years of 1976-1980. This is discussed in the Vail McDonald book, I dont know the chapter though. Engine 776 was an EMD GP7 that...

    Logging Railroads and their Equipment

Vigilant, That photo was taken AFTER 1976 because the lettering is CM&E RR, which was the Curtis Milburn & Eastern. This RR was formed after Weyco suspended rail operation in Pe Ell in favor of Curtis. This happened in the summer of 1976. The lone engine for the CM&E RR was the 684. It worked...

    Logging Railroads and their Equipment

Yes Scott Barrett is still around. He and Frank Telewski co-authored a book on the Vail-Mc Donald operations about 5 years ago or so. I have never meet Scott or Frank, but have had several e mail conversations with Frank about different Weyco subjects. If your Dad ran one of the 2 FMs out of...

SW Washington loggers from the 70's/early 80's............Filla,Portway,ect....

My grandad had trucks hauling out of Vail from the late 70s up until the Vail sort yard closed in the mid 90s. My grandad is Elmer Cook. My uncle, Ernie Cook also hauled out of the Vail area as well as my Dad Jim Aust, (aka Pineapple). I have many childhood memories of going to Vail and seeing...

Hi guys! I bumped into this forum yesterday and was hooked! I was raised around log trucks since I was 4 yrs old. My Grandad used to own a large fleet of log trucks out of the Chehalis, Wa area and hauled mainly for Weyco. My dad is also a log truck driver. He has driven truck for 37 years now...

Logging Equipment- Dead at Mt. St. Helens!

I am not quite sure, but I think the guy with his back towards the camera in left of the photo is my aunts first husband Dave Gardin. He worked for Weyco at the time of the eruption. I am not sure where exactly his last setting was at but I want to say it was on Coldwater Ridge and I pretty sure...

SW Washington loggers from the 70's/early 80's............Filla,Portway,ect....

I know a story about Mulqueen gate. Those of you may remember that the Mulqueen gate crossed not only the road going to the reload but also the RR tracks too. Well one morning, one of my grandads (Elmer Cook) truck drivers was trying to be the first one to the reload. Well turns out he was a...

SW Washington loggers from the 70's/early 80's............Filla,Portway,ect....

Actually unit 776 was a EMD GP7. This loco was bought from Morrison Knudsen in 1977. Hence the reason the ### starts with 77. The 38s were 817, 818, 819, & 810. They were bought new in 1981 hence the reason the ### start with 81. Best Regards Ryan modeling the Chehalis Western in N scale
