    New and need help

Carlson is AutoCAD or InteliCAD based, so the question really lies in what your skill level is with AutoCAD/AutoDesk products since the engine for Carlson is CAD. Magent, from the guys that are Topcon users, are mixed; some like it some dont. Personally I love the function of Carlson Takeoff...

    TBC or Carlson

Carlson takeoff has proven to be very useful, however I've sat in on some TBC user groups and it's impressive. It really depends on on weather your auto cad skill level. Me personally I love my takeoff r4! I build every model, and quantity takeoffs. Once I get into TBC more for the modeling...

Trimble Business Center or Insite sitework

if your choice is narrowed to those two formats, TBC all the way. Insite is a cheap solution, but from my experiences its a cheap design. TBC has way more functions and vesitility.

Stringless Leica PaveSmart 3D Slipeform Concrete Paver System

I never have been a fan of Terramodel, the code wasn't written by a CAD user. TBC I have been experimenting with and so far Im liking what it has to offer. My main use for it right now is just importing/exporting files for machine control and data collectors. My Carlson R4 I can export a .ttm...

Stringless Leica PaveSmart 3D Slipeform Concrete Paver System

I was aware of the school, we didnt pull the trigger on the GZ850 until a couple of weeks ago. Last Friday we pulled the trigger on the Leica Stringless! I cant wait to get into it. Its going to work out perfect for us becuase we have a 8 mile 13' wide temporart pavement pour we can test it...

Using ProVal to evaluate Highway Models

I've just came accross this ProVal software that allows me to take my finish pavement surface that will be used for our excavation/embankment, placing our stone and place our concrete pavement in our hopefully a new stringless slipform plaving system (which we are in the process of buying) The...

Topcon Millimeter GPS vs Trimble GPS

I haven't figured out the TBC as of yet, but Ive been using Carlson for the past 3-4 years now and I love it...probably b/c Im a AutoCAD guy since the version12 days. But the biggest thing to keep in mind that the number one thing with there systems is the information you put in...ive said...

Stringless Leica PaveSmart 3D Slipeform Concrete Paver System

Is anyone currently running this system? The company I am working for is in serious consideration on gearing this up on a new G&Z850 Slipeform Paver and I have never used a system of this sort. I was curious of the model, setups, tricks, etc.

Topcon Millimeter GPS vs Trimble GPS

No matter what system you choose, it boils down to the information and the calibrations you put in (3D model & site calibrations). If you put garbage in, you'll get garbage out! I dont think if your using just GPS that you gain anything from Trimble to Topcon, it works the same. Now if your...

    3D Modeling

When I am finished building any model I also run the contours @ 0.10' to really see how my slopes and grades look, especially when build a 8 mile highway with many variations of transitions ans slopes.

    Will Trimble work with Topcon?

I dont know if you can add a Trimble radio to transmit CMR's to you Trimble machine from the Topcon base...it think either Topcon or Trimble makes a cable that allows you to broadcast both radio's from a single base unit. I know I was looking at the Topcon system for our grader and found that I...

    Creating a digital model

I've beed build models for 10+ years now and Chambers is spot on in his reply, except for one small thing: I would never digitize any plan to be used for machine control or layout. Its just not accurate enough in my opinion. I do alot of site jobs, but recently changed jobs to a highway...

    Spectra Physics Blade Pro

We are still using Blade Pro 3D/ATS Systems on our CMI Trimmers. They are outdated and in the past I have had many problems with the control boxes refusing to work. I would (at the time) send them in to my Trimble dealer and get them fixed. But as of now Trimble is no longer supporting that...
