    Lebherr LTM 1750-9.1

Photos are frowned upon by the owner. It doesn't make sense as everyone in the region knows what is being built, and people have come from all over the country (and beyond) to work there, but rules are rules. Maybe in a couple of months when our part of the project is complete???

    Lebherr LTM 1750-9.1

I'm working on a site that has one of these 900 ton bad boys. It has a luffing jib that's well over 300' and has over 100 tons of counterweight. The rigging crew was using the crane to "scope" a lift before they actually hooked up the load. They had it reach over the building and used the...

    Memories for us old truckers

PNM, the electric utility in New Mexico, had several of those. I've seen one hauling poles, another with a cherry picker, and another hauling a massive trailer-mounted cherry picker. They've long since been removed from active service.

    Overload of the Day

As JaredV says, this is set up to mess with bridge laws. Many many years ago, Colorado only wanted to know the "bridge" (length between first and last axles) and the number of axles. According to their formula, I was able to gross a lot more with the same axle spacing than I was in New...

Working the water and land pics

I just passed my OSHA 30 yesterday and that is still droning on in my head. I see several violations, but then I'm seeing violations everywhere.

Dump trailers, why does everyone love them?

I've not seen a "homeowner" with a dump trailer--way too expensive. I've seen utility trailers with sides (7k or less), but not dump trailers--unless they also own a landscaping or construction business.

Dump trailers, why does everyone love them?

I had one and it was great. It gave me versatility that I couldn't have gotten with a dump truck. I hauled tools locked up in my truck and still had the dump option. I could leave the trailer on the site (never overnight) if I need to run errands or get materials. I didn't use it that much...

    Yes, and I drove it.

    Why I hate boom trucks

I wonder how do concrete pumps compare to boom trucks. I was following one today and it looks like they have a lot of weight up high.

    Memories for us old truckers

I drove an ugly version of that truck in the late 70s, early 80s. It was short wheelbase with a short hood, Dayton rims, 318 Detroit, and a 13 speed. That ugly old dog ran like a noisy demon and certainly did what the company deed.

    Memories for us old truckers

I was working for a large electrical contractor in the late 70s, that picked up a ten-wheel bucket truck at an auction that had that belt drive. I believe the truck came from somewhere in the midwest.

    Trees, Trees, and More Trees

Regarding the rotators: if the only tool you have is a hammer, then every problem looks like a nail. Why send a roll-back if you can bill for a rotator?

What is the most dependable truck engine of all time?

That makes sense. I hear on the news where the Albuquerque Fire Department will send 15 unit sto a house fire. I don't know where they would park 15 units, down the block for several blocks?

You can bet he wasn't distracted on his phone, adjusting the air ride seat, playing with the radio, or being safe. He was probably thrilled to have a job.

    Insley H-3000

Years ago, we were riding bikes along the MKT Trail near Boonville MO, and in the middle of nowhere, between the cliffs and the river was a long-abandoned Northwest Dragline. It will be quite an effort to get it out of there--even cut up (if it's still there). When I see equipment like that, I...

    Memories for us old truckers

It the late 70s, the company I worked for installed a type of alcohol injector (methanol?) on an International Loadstar 1700 that had air brakes. Air dryers weren't very common in those days. That was a sweet running gasser. We worked it to death and it never used a drop of oil (just lots of...

    Again with the glasses

I've been wearing reading glasses since high school and have been wearing progressive lens for over 20 years. They took some getting used to, but I see better than just about everyone I know. I was going to make a joke about being better looking, but decided to let it go.

    Just some work pics

No more wall walking for framers in New Mexico. We have the "6' Rule." Anything over 6' has to be tied off or on a ladder. Took the fun out or framing.

    Overload of the Day

That trailer looks it may an old Miller and Smith??? There were several in the area when I was breaking in. The neck wasn't long enough for a jeep. I don't know what there were rated, but there were stout trailers. D-9s, 637s, it didn't matter. At the time, there were only two field DOT...
