    Case 1845c purchase?

If you haven't bought a skid steer yet, I would get the larger one. I have an 1845C and it's a great machine, but its going to be a challenge to move bales that size, esp downhill.

CASE 1845c Restoration. Follow my progress!

Did you replace any pins/bushings ...or reem-out any plates to tighten it up? Sorry to hear about your brothers death BTW. My condolances.

CASE 1845c Restoration. Follow my progress!

What was the thought-process of going with that color? Just liked the color or did you see it on another loader? It's interesting, b/c most guys 'restore' a skid paint them stock again. I probably would have as well. It never really crossed my mind to go a wildly different color like that...

    Which coolant? Case 1845C Cummins

Yeah, like the other guys said, just buy purified or distilled water. Consider long-life conventional (green) antifreeze. Thats what I use. Once you have your system drained, it might be a good idea to inspect the cooling system CAREFULLY. As in the lower radiator hose and any leaks. The...

CASE 1845c Restoration. Follow my progress!

Work looks great! You're making me want to re-do mine!! :D What color is your bucket now? One option might be to spray the top/sides yellow, but leave the rest a light cream (primer) color, or perhaps gray or black. Virnig attachments are a gray color and look pretty good with a skid steer.

CASE 1845c Restoration. Follow my progress!

Use care b/f putting A/A or other so called 'protectants' on your tires. Guys on the classic car forums pretty much uniformly agree the silicates dry up and crack tires. I use WD 40 instead. Doesn't last as long, or shine as bright, but doesn't screw up rubber either.

CASE 1845c Restoration. Follow my progress!

Looks great. Something I may do at some point in the future. Here's a tip if you're interested that'll take a restoration to the next level. I've done a number of classic cars and this will take your restoration to the next level. Maybe you're already going to do this: Look around in your area...

CASE 1845c Restoration. Follow my progress!

If your engine cover is as sloppy as most, now would be a good time to weld in another support, before you paint it ...re-do the door hinge right, like Case should have. Seems like they all sort of hang off at a cockeyed angle. Here's another tip: you could remove a bunch of normally plated...

It's starting to look like winter...

Is your driveway slightly elevated? Anything you can do to make it drift less in the first place will cut your work down. Looks like you're already plowing to one side (the leeward side). A blower might be a consideration, but they're slow and you almost need a heated cab (b/c some snow blows...

    Cheers. Welcome aboard! Nice introduction.

    New-to-Me 1845C -- questions, etc

Dan, I agree about the foot pedal action. Terrible design. I plan on upgrading mine too. At the very least either drill out the holes and install a larger (shouldered) bolt, or weld/redrill ...to tighten up. As a side note, have you checked and drained/re-filled your planetary drive motors...

Case 1845c Where to find Pin and bushing parts for loader

Sims, that was a great idea. Did you make all new bushings, or just lower bucket bushings? What was your process of removing them? O/P: Pins and bushings are avail from the dealer. They're not cheap, but if you only need a couple .... Sometimes our dealer has a spring open house where they...

    Looking at skid steers???

That was great advice. Figure out your budget. How old of a machine do you feel comfortable with? You can't 'convert' a wheeled machine to tracks easily but you can ADD over-the-tire tracks which many guys do and like. But that's an extra expense. Sometimes ya see some used ones that are...

    Skid steer tires?

Sounds like a good unit. I have nothing against Thomas. I've looked their specs over. Seem fine. You don't see very many of them around here. Good luck on the tires!!

    Skid steer tires?

That's not a bad price. What skid loader do you have? IDK your situation but you sound like a handy guy. If you have time and patience, consider dismounting your old ones yourself, sandblasting the rim sealing region and the valve stem, even if it's just with a hand blaster, paint with a couple...

    Skid steer tires?

That seems to be true. I've noticed many of the low cost tires don't have great tread depth. So just keep an out out for that when buying. On the other hand, while most buyers think they need the meanest and deepest tread on the planet, that may not always be wise. Depending on the use tread can...

Sizing up a new tilt cylinder? Can it be done with without dealer parts?

And use the right tool (wrench) .....

Sizing up a new tilt cylinder? Can it be done with without dealer parts?

A lot of times the mfgr, (or a dealer repair) drills a hole and "Pins" the gland nut in place with a screw, pop rivet or some other pin ...at the seam between the gland nut and the cylinder body so the glad nut doesn't loosen itself. It's very effective. Over years of use, the head of the screw...

'96 Case 1845c low power on left side

BTW, the other issue you mentioned about the bucket lowering before lifting up, did you come up with anything there? If you grab a bucket of dirt/gravel, and shut the machine off, does the bucket tilt forward pretty quick or hold for a while? Do some experimenting and let us know how it's...
