Press Fit Bushing Bore Size Info.

This is the most often asked question when boring holes for bearings and the easiest to answer. Firstly toss rule of thumb theories out the window. The manufacturer has there own idea how much interference they want on a bearing. When they design it they build into it the interference and the...

    Bore welding help

I don't drop in as much as I used to. I run a Line Boring group on FB which is more focused than what you can do here. If anyone is interested I can reply to a PM. Answering the topic, its a big risk welding bores before a prep cut and I can't think of a reason not to. As far as penetration and...

    Line boring equipment preferances

If the OP is considering line boring on scrapers and so likely on cushion hitches I would respectfully suggest getting decent gear and an operator who has plenty of experience.

D8R Final drive gears and housing

The pin bores are regularly rebuilt by metal spraying. I have been involved with a number of 10T and 777 units recently. There are service guidelines and size specs available.

What does everyone think of women getting into wrenching on heavy equipment?

Unfortunately there is blame both sides. How many women up in the office have had the tap on the shoulder and the hard word put on them. It was rife in many workshops. The chickens have come home to roost! I have been in shops line boring and along side me a girl is busting her gut with a...

Sleave or welding for rebuilt forklift

You would still need to harden the 4340 but I dont know whether it would go too brittle when quenched. A heat treatment shop could do it properly.

Sleave or welding for rebuilt forklift

If you have the metal left I would bore it till it cleaned up and machine a new bearing out of 4140. Make it 10 thou bigger.Heat red and oil quench it. Final machine with ceramic inserts. Welding the bore would be a last resort in cast parent metal but if you had to use a pure nickel consumable.

Cat 304 Pins and Bushing Purchase

I machine the bucket and stick to 1mm clearance. The proper clearance is not 3/8. You may get away with machining up a couple a 3/16 shims out of something decent but they never last as long as a proper machined fit.

Cat 304 Pins and Bushing Purchase

The specs I've seen for 300 series are around 1mm (.040) Thats what I machine them to and I get no complaints.

    Is liquid nitrogen safe?

I've been using liquid nitrogen for around 30 years to install bearings, probably thousands of them. I have broken one bearing. It got stuck and grabbed and we tried to flog it in with a 14 lb hammer. The flange on the bearing broke off. A handy rule of thumb for nitrogen is Steel bearing shrink...

    What are your boring thoughts?

I use Tweco MIG nozzles. My welder fittings are 16 X 1 threads and I machine up a brass adapter to fit them . I use sizes right up to the Number 5

Is a Lister Diesel worth having?

There's not to many Lister's that aren't repairable. I have 2 diesels, one air cooled and one water cooled. I restored a 1926 petrol Model L. I was able to buy new valves for it. They were built to work hard and long.
