What's The Craziest Mechanical Problem You've Experienced?

We had a stick shift Cat 955 that would run great then just stop, fuel filters were empty, refilled the filter cans, it would start and run fine for 10 mins up to days on end, then would shut down with no fuel in filters. WTF, I screwed with it for weeks. One day I was fueling it up with the...

    Soil stabilization - hints&tips

I've seen that tried........and I've seen it fail.........hate to see you waste time and money, it just didn't mix well enough or deep enough to work well. As for setting the grade higher we found it to be the opposite, whatever amount of fly ash you add, that is how much you lower the grade we...

    140h cable steps

I never ripped the strap type steps off but came close while cleaning around manholes, I just unbolted the top hangars from the cab and the straps from the hangars, flipped them (the hangars) over and remounted the straps to them, it raised the steps about 6 - 8 inches, if I remember right, it...

    Wabco scrapers at work

Just getting around to catching up on reading posts saw Post#888 about the electric steering malfunction. I had a main cable fry on D111A going across a dike on a farm pond about 20 foot high and the nose would swing one way when I'd stomp the brakes, I would start heading over the edge, I'd jam...

    My aching back...

Bad backs, knees and wrists I just put it down to the "cost of doing business", bad backs and aching joints are just a couple of the health issues that are associated with operating equipment, factor in the dust with all the residual chemical additives from over the years, the sun burning down...

    My first Grader

I wondered if it had the 2 righthand blade control levers and the rocker switches to the left of the seat. If it does, spray contact cleaner, di-electric grease and a soldering gun will be your friends.

Cold Day On the Operators Seat

Best way to get elevation change

Kjb, If you are looking for elevation change i.e. feet above sea level, my Garmin gps has that feature, then when you're done in the machine you can take it with you. If you are looking for cross slope my I phone 4s has a level tool in it that gives percentages, you could attach either of them...

    Cable Control Blades

We had this slide bar 8 and a few 13a and 14a's in the 60's and 70's that we'd drop the blades and hook up pans to. I got so used to sitting on the arm rest seat for the pans I'd even run from there with the blades on. Wouldn't all safety people soil themselves if they saw this now!!!

    Case 470 Gas Tank Pressure

My buddy's Ford 9N did the same thing, the location of his gas tank is right above the engine and exhaust. I took some sheet steel and made a heat shield for the exhaust manifold, that took care of his problem. Is there some way to make a heat shield for yours that would clamp on the exhaust...
