    Case 580C (Extendahoe) restoration

I had originally expected to keep it but discovered that it was going to be sitting a lot and also it is a bit destructive to use around a place. Spent a bit of time filling in tire ruts and stabilizer holes. I am thinking of looking for a smaller version backhoe that I could get better use...

    Case 580C (Extendahoe) restoration

That is correct. Accomplished what I needed it for and got to learn quite a bit about heavier equipment than I was used to. It was going to be sitting for most of its life if I kept it so I sold it to a friend down the road. I can still borrow it if the need comes up so not a bad deal I...

    Case 580C (Extendahoe) restoration

I completed the work I needed it for and sold it to a guy 3 miles down the road from me. Sold it for what I put into it, $5400.00 in parts. He asked me to help him with the extendahoe so we pulled it apart today to replace the cylinder seals and the wear slide plates. At least I can always...

Case 580 steering issue . Could bent center rod an issue?

I doubt it would have caused any problems other than being thinner than the recommended oil. Could have loosened up the relief valve or maybe just too thin for it to hold properly. Hard to say for sure. When I picked my C up it had ATF in the steering and shuttle. Changed out the fluids in...

Case 580 steering issue . Could bent center rod an issue?

Sounds more like the relief valve in the pump is sticking or the spring is weak. The pump is easy to take off and a hydraulic shop an test the pressure and relief. What oil are you using? I use 303 tractor oil in my C and it has worked great. When you straighten the steering rod, make sure...

    Case 580c 1979 starting issues

A few things can cause the engine to spin slowly in cold weather. Start with the basics: Make sure the battery cable terminals are clean and tight on both ends (Battery and starter) Use multi-grade oil for winter use (5w30 or 15w40) Try using a different battery to see if cranks better. I...

    580c Inection Pump rebuild

The amount of fuel that returns to the tank varies with engines, injection pumps, rpm and probably some other factors as well. I am not a diesel mechanic and only know how things work after I have had to repair them. As for the engine problem, looks like you have replaced the items usually...

    580c Inection Pump rebuild

Hopefully the shaft stayed on the engine. You will need to replace the two cup seals and I think an o-ring seal on the shaft when you put the pump back on the shaft. I made a tool to install the cup seals as the shaft has a few ring groves that make getting the seals on without damaging them...

    580C hour meter

PM me with your address and I will get it in the mail. There is a small metal clip at one end of the number dials that you can take off and drop the dials out. You can then set them to the hours you want and put it back in. There is also a hundreds dial on these tachs but it is blocked out by...

    580C hour meter

The hour meter is a gear drive that has a nylon shaft connected on one end with a very small straight tooth gear to a gear on the drive cable and on the other end a worm gear that advances the numbers. Each number wheel has a small pin that will catch the next gear as it makes one full...

    580c Inection Pump rebuild

There are others on here that can offer way more knowledge about troubleshooting the fuel system than I can. What little I have encountered with rough running diesels are air getting in the fuel line, rust from the fuel tank or a plugged up air filter. I did help a neighbor with his 480C that...

    580c Inection Pump rebuild

If it looks like dark sand grains it will be from the flex ring. The pump can usually be rebuilt with a 30.00 (US) kit that can be purchased from several places on the internet. It does take some work to tear apart the pump but it really is not that hard to do if you take some photos as you go...

    580c Inection Pump rebuild

Not sure if rough running could be caused by the injection pump. Mine would run fine and then just shut down. Let it sit for a few minutes and it would start back up and then shut down. I'm no expert on these pumps but the way they are designed, if they get fuel they will pump. If there is...

I sent you a PM on the manual.

    580c Inection Pump rebuild

The pistons are referred to in the manual as "plungers". They are inside the rotor that is in the center of the pump body. You only need to put a small amount of any type of oil (I used motor oil) so they are held apart a tiny bit to let the fuel get between them when you put the injection...

    Sponge?

Get one that is close to the GPM of your system. There are variable models that will let you adjust the flow rate for the best results.

    Sponge?

TheOldMan, I have a Yanmar that I built a FEL for it. I ran into the same issue on mine. You are in fact pulling a vacuum on the back side of the cylinder because the pump cannot supply enough oil into the back side as fast as the bucket is pulling the oil out on the other side due to the...

    580C boom fall at Unlock....

My 580C does the same thing. I get around it by running the extendahoe down to support the boom. Then start lowering the boom and pulling up the extendahoe at the same time. First time I let it go over on it's own I thought it would blow out the boom seals.

    580C Bucket Teeth

I hope that thing came with instructions. Not sure by looking at it exactly how it works.
