The 575 has more torque. It will keep cutting when the 372 bogs down. The anti-vibe is 5x better as well. My helper ran over my 575 with the skidder, so I bought a new 357XP as a temporary stopgap saw. UN-real how badass this little saw is. It's 9/10ths the saw the 372 is and way lighter and...

What happens when you fall on a staub........

Been there, done that. Fell backwards onto a white pine log with a 1/2" thick 4" long dead stub of a branch...went in about 3/4" ...about 1/2" from my touch-hole. Now I have 2 touch-holes. Went into shock, silly as it sounds...It was exactly like watching a heavy fog close in on me from all...

    chainsaw thread

I run a 372XP with a 24" bar, and a 575XP with a 24" bar. Just put a new carb on the 575, ethanol ate the original. People say bad things about the 575, but this one has given me 5 years and many loads of wood. Prefer it all day over the 372. Keeps your arms in shape limbing with it. Will be...

    how are duetz motors?

Must be what my 1983 5 cyl Duetz was, because the thing never, ever- EVER- even hiccuped and I ran it WFO in 96* summer heat for years..got it so hot the oil on the side of the block (injector was crank case oil lubed, and blowby gave it some too) would smoke off...never lost power, never even...

So...what is the concensus? The best diesel engine ever made?

I don't want to ruffle feathers....but.. I HATE 2-stroke Detroits. Gutless loud pigs. Sure, they run forever and a few days besides, but how I hate them.. I vote for any air-cooled Duetz. Any opinion on a late 80s 6068 Deere?

So...what is the concensus? The best diesel engine ever made?

If we include all diesels, how about the Int. 7.3 turbo as found in 2000-2003 Fords?

So...what is the concensus? The best diesel engine ever made?

I'm sure this topic has been hashed over a couple hundred times, but I'm new here. I am curious to know what the best diesel is according to you. For ease of argument, lets concentrate on pre-2003 made engines. I suppose the criteria would include longevity, ease of obtaining parts...

    how are duetz motors?

Ran mine since 1997 on the same half worn fan belt it came with, just replaced it a couple months ago for peace of mind.. No one ever told me of the timing belt. Willing to bet it has 30K hours on the one it's running now. Bulletproof. Best diesel money can buy. Running a 1988 John Deere 648D...

    how are duetz motors?

I too should clarify my statement above: My Duetz was an AIR COOLED 5 cylinder. I have no experience with a liquid cooled. I stand by my statement that the Air Cooled Duetz' are superior engines to any other diesel...

    how are duetz motors?

Don't be foolish. I owned a Duetz powered Tree Farmer Skidder for 15 years, pulled many millions of feet with it. Best damn diesel engines made. ALWAYS start, I don't care how long it's been or how cold.

What have you found while digging?

I don't do much digging, but I DO collect antique bottles...particularly any antique (Pre- 1900) New Hampshire bottles.. However, I love all antique bottles. I will buy any you guys find if they tickle me... PM me if you do have some. Thanks.
