Could a novice get a little operating advice on a D7?

Fastline, If the idlers are set high, their will be less track on the ground so the tractor will be less well balanced for dozing. The high position is better suited to pulling. Here is a link that might show it better...

Could a novice get a little operating advice on a D7?

When stationary if you put down pressure on the blade will it lift the front end of the tractor, if it does, will it stay raised or does it creep back down? Do the idlers look like they are in the high position? If you have a decent tractor on your box blade you can make a rough job look slick...

Could a novice get a little operating advice on a D7?

Fastline, A full blade is easier than an empty one to grade with. Farmerlund, I agree as far as ripping goes, I kind of take it for granted. I always rip when needed, I hate dicking around trying to fill the blade. Scrub, It was nice getting a power shift after those direct drives though...

Could a novice get a little operating advice on a D7?

Fastline, I think that if you have been doing final trim on a small dozer, you must already have the "bubble", unless of course it was a GPS or lazer actuated machine. It could just be that your front idlers are in the high position or you may have lazy lift rams and thats not fun If you are...

    Ripping in good ground.

Hello Scrub, I am not disagreeing with you in any shape or form, I would most likely have been removing the center shank too. I am an old fella too, so they say. Chasing 62 but its others that think I am getting old, not me!

    Ripping in good ground.

Hello Pete, In saying that I move around, I maybe should have been clearer..... I am in Morocco at the moment and the bulk part of the project is over, thank goodness. Here some of the upper layer was rippable with a D8R for everything else they used hammers/breakers. The job I was on before...

    Ripping in good ground.

Hello Scrub, I actually prefer three shanks if the dozer will pull them at full depth, if not I switch to 2. I mostly run a D8R or a 155 for any bulk that I have to move and in most dirt I have no problem. I move around quite a lot so the conditions and material do vary. Where I am at the...

Subsistence Bulldozer Pond Excavation in Africa

I would love to have the knowledge to give you but I just operate, I don't fix. There are several on here that could help you. I will try and attach some pictures, notice where the lift rams attach to the blade, where they connect to the yoke on the nose. Also that blade is an LGP blade, yours...

Hello Marsh Mutt, Your D4D looks like it resurrected from the grave! I have got myself intrigued by the front end of that D6 of yours. I searched through a bunch of pictures on the net last night and could find nothing like it, has it baeen modified?

Subsistence Bulldozer Pond Excavation in Africa

I think the lift height problem you have with your D6D could be that the nose end is not original, a least its not like any 6D LGP or standard that I have used or been around. How did you finish up in that part of the world?

D6n harsh transmission shifting from reverse to forward?

Is it FTC (fingertip control) or a differential steer tractor. I have experienced that harsh/jolting/banging directional shifting on D5 and D 6 M/N models but only on FTC tractors. However I decelerated/braked made little or no difference to the condition. On a few occasions it was sorted via a...

    Hearing protection

John, I am not sure if you are serious about the noise cancelling for the ringing in your ears or joking. But the quieter your surroundings the louder that noise in your head seems. My doctor told me that their is no fix for it and if the ringing was too intrusive when trying to sleep, I should...

    Hearing protection

I use a pair of Peltor X5A 37db, which I find to be good but if you wear sunglasses the arms need to be slim, if not it breaks the seal between the muff and your face. I have also tried the Bose Quiet Comfort in ear and the over ear. I found them to be ok but not when working in rock, it seemed...
