Jeff, You might try calling, writing or visiting the tractor dealers in your state and close by for videos. Tell them you're in the market to buy and what size you're looking for. They might have older videos in their libraries they'll loan you. Even the newer videos will let you compare... -

A CASE dealer loaned me a video comparing the CAT D6 to a 1550 back in the '90s. I don't remember the details other than the 1550 used less fuel, made power turns, could counter-rotate and was more productive. If somebody has that film could you post it to youtube for us? -

Another attachment you can hang on a dozer is a portable backhoe. These used to be fairly common. I knew a guy who had one on a John Deere and just took it off when he wasn't using it. Could be handy on a farm. -

More things I've done with a dozer; Pull a sheepsfoot roller, vibratory compactor and rock crusher. Wrap a chain around fence posts and lift em out with the blade. Works great. You can throw a chain around a heavy object, lift it with the blade and move it around. Throw a chain around... -

I wasn't going to say anymore as I'm sure you're sick of me too. BUT..... there isn't any reason you can't tow a scraper behind a machine with a ripper. If there isn't a hitch still on the machine you can weld one up to the ripper beam. Just remove the shanks. Problem solved. In the old days... -

Here's another idea. Get the biggest dozer you can find and a towed scraper. It moves a lot of dirt and compacts it as well. And they're cheaper and less work than having two powered machines. -

I was hoping somebody else would bring this up; Safety. I admire your self-sufficiency and determination but you may end up aggravating your condition (especially your hips). A dozer is a pretty unforgiving machine when it comes to comfort. Unless you're pushing beach sand you can get jolted... -

Does anyone know which manufacturer was first to use a parallelogram ripper and what machine it was first used on? There's nothing new under the sun so I was just wondering. Does this even go back to steam tractors?
