    Manitowoc 31000

Just looking through here and I'm curious. Where is #1? Still at the factory? Anything solid for a first job? Or has it already went to work?

    Grove rt890e "pat ds350"

Typical Grove. Their new cranes have been having more and more problems. And they never have any good solutions.

Crane safety - anyone seen this video?

Can't even count the times I've heard " What do you mean you can't drive through that with 200k lbs of counterweight on?"...... That meaning swamp. It just keeps getting worse as the older guys keep retiring.

Needing some objective advice on small crane

×2^ Personally I'd stick to renting if I were you. For insurance purposes, not only lack of experience.

×2 I will add. My twist up last week after coming off of 90k happened after we first built the crane, it was really the first lift off of the main and hasn't happened again. So in my case it just settled in.

Never heard that term for getting a twist. But if that's what that question is referring to, your practice to prevent it would be to pull all of your slack through your block and head section removing any twist in the line before making it over or under each sheave. Even that doesn't always do...

    Can You say Duhhh

I had the same thing happen to me a few years ago. Had a guy going but I straightened him out and he finally had a laugh.

I second gostr8rs answers. And I too say, what is cabling supposed to mean?

    Can You say Duhhh

Interesting. I have gotten requests to spin a load doing little jobs for smaller contractors though. I always say they didn't order that option on that crane. Just one of the many dumb things you deal with in the rental business.

    Can You say Duhhh

A little off topic. But where did the rotation take place? The carriage rotated?

Might as well hit the load spin button too. :laugh

    Boom Truck Crane Issues

Cant really help with the outrigger problem without troubleshooting it myself, just see if you have hydro pressure at the cylinder itself and work your way back all the way to the control if you have to, to find the problem. And that sounds like you need the computer calibrated. No way you...

    Terex Crossover 6000

In my opinion these are pointless with limited hauling space on the bed, not to mention limited hauling weight and the fact that its a truck and you'd have to keep it inspected. Might as well have a purpose built truck crane. That being said, I'd say its a good crane design, just doesn't...

Is this common practice in setting pads/mats?

He's just floating the outriggers. Thats perfectly safe and commonly done. In some cases this has to be done where space is an issue where your half outrigger is occupying the same space the mat has to. Or this can be done on a hill where you need to build up on your mat in the event your jack...

    Wind Farm Accident Tehachapi CA?

70-80k for the hub and blades together. The 80 meter towers anyway. Never built any though. Just brought them down for repairs.

    Bigge 125D AFRD

Usually your mast is held in place by several hundred thousand pounds of weights. That thing is counterweighted by the world lol. Amazing

Two Cranes Lifts ... Your thoughts

You can usually feel another operator out just by watching them set up and swing the hook around a little. Are they level? Smooth at the controls? Etc. But that being said, if you don't know the other guy its a little bit of a gamble. If they do something stupid, just stop everything. I...

Controls: Single axis Vs Dual action joysticks

A crane is a crane. But every rig and its controls are different, even with the exact model, being that every machine is used in different ways and environments. So with every crane we'll have to acclimate ourselves. I will say that with dual axis controllers in a crane I've never ran before...

    Crain accident

Some states do require that an operator of hoisting equipment over a certain tonnage have a license. But not all states, Yet. That law just passed for us here in PA.

Your Results on the CCO practical.....

New rigs for all of our union training sites? Ehh, two schools of thought on that one. Its good to have newer cranes so we can all be familiar with the setup procedures and not to mention the computers on these things. But if you can run an older hydro or friction rig in a smooth manner, it'll...
