Thunderbird Yarders, Loaders, and Etc from the Murray's in Eugene Oregon

TY 90 enquiry Regrettably Johno I didn't take the opportunity to note any such info on the day. Provided it was new and working back from the build records it might be Y9067 but I'm not sure if 9067 was a trailor mount. Otherwise I think it would have to be a used 90. On the plus side, from the...

Thunderbird Yarders, Loaders, and Etc from the Murray's in Eugene Oregon

T/Bird Rubber 255 - Torkel I agree Torkel - it looks somewhat complex compared to one I saw in Oct 89 at Rosscorp (pic). In my shot I'm purely guessing that's either an M5 or a Pierce undercarriage.

Thunderbird Yarders, Loaders, and Etc from the Murray's in Eugene Oregon

Yeh, I recall talking to the logger that imported 5087 into NZ at the time and have vague memories of him relating to the updated undercarriage. Also thought that Berger was mentioned. However, it was over fifteen years ago but I am still in contact with him so will see how good his memory is...

Thunderbird Yarders, Loaders, and Etc from the Murray's in Eugene Oregon

My old T/Bird workshop records concur with your 5080 details. However, they also specify that 5087 and 5088, both sold new to L C Logging, had Mark 5 Berger undercarriages. I'm just wondering if I've got a typo or if they indeed did use the Mark 5's initially and were later replaced for T/Bird...

Thunderbird Yarders, Loaders, and Etc from the Murray's in Eugene Oregon

According to my notes and looking at the pic, 5088 might have a Berger undercarriage.

Thunderbird Yarders, Loaders, and Etc from the Murray's in Eugene Oregon

Y8035 Trivia Question Could it be that TY 80, #Y8035, was the only two drum 'high lead' yarder that Ross produced at Eugene.

S5162 Jeremy, is there any way that we could get that comfirmed as I don't have any ownership detail against #S5162.

6355 Scotty, did you happen to note the #no of the 6355 in question.

Thunderbird Yarders, Loaders, and Etc from the Murray's in Eugene Oregon

6355 Just adding to Furpo's reply on the question of slacklining and shotguning. Standard ex factory, not capable due to insufficent braking and they are not control plumbed for either of the above. You can operate each drum individually by way of isolation valves. Interesting to note that the...

    S. Madill, Blacksmith, Founded in 1911 in Nanaimo BC

70135 First NZ owner, Brown logging, Invercargill and delivered mid 2000. It was a tidy machine on arrival complete with Turbo albeit, the motor as a whole, was in very average condition.

Some more boom modifications Top pic is #5121. The boom had the complete make over at Madill before coming to NZ. This machine is the same yarder as in Furpo's recent post, 778. Bottom pic was Winstone Allnut's #5141. Although not that clear in the shot there is also a swivel fairlead added...

Thunderbird Yarders, Loaders, and Etc from the Murray's in Eugene Oregon

In operational terms, no problems with the 70' tower on the TMY 50. I guess if one was considering the change over it would come down to a cost benefit exercise - personally, I would be reluctant - the TMY 50 is a pretty well balanced yarder as it is. Both 5065 and 5078 had their original 71...

Thunderbird Yarders, Loaders, and Etc from the Murray's in Eugene Oregon

R5065 Yeh Froggy, after a brief moment of self doubt, I realised we had to be referring to different yarders. Pic is of R5065 on delivery to Ken Robertson back in 93. He only had it a short while and sold it to Ross Davis. I also had a bit to do with the delivery R5078 to Les Tressider. I'm...

Thunderbird Yarders, Loaders, and Etc from the Murray's in Eugene Oregon

Good shots of the 70 and 255 - worked on both - the 70 when it originally came in over here (Oz) and the 255 when Jake Rua got it in up near Hicks Bay - couldn't quite make out the signwriting on the cab but it's different to what Jake had so I guess it has a new owner. Also, there were at least...

TTY 6150 Specs Have split spec sheet into two files to try and make it readable - here goes. Also, have noticed a mistake in the heading, 'TSY', and as I remember, they only had four guylines.

TTY6150 - Loggin_it reply A couple of pics of TTY 6150 (#T5100) at FIME 98 logging show at Rotorua just before it was delivered to Mangoihe. There's a better than average chance that this one is yours as I'm not aware of any others down this way. I have a spec sheet scanned but isn't very...
