    Case 580K not charging

Thanks Tuck66, I checked the bulb and it is good but the holder and the printed circuit where it contacts is a little sketchy so I will do a little rebuilding and try it again,

    Case 580K not charging

My Case 580 k alternator is not charging. The voltmeter is reading low even when the batteries are fully charged. If I flash the D terminal on the alternator it charges at 14.4 volts measured with my voltmeter. The voltmeter on the side console still reads low. When the alt is not charging the...

    o-ring wheel question

I too hate wire brushing rusty wheels so I was happy to discover a needle scaler attachment for my air chisel. It was 20-$30 and works so much faster and better than a brush. Plan on wearing some good ear muffs though!

Odd size tires on a grader

I have a Wabco 555 with 1400 x 24 tires. They are pretty well cracked and with the tube starting to show on one of them, I started looking for replacements. I found 3 new yokohamas at a clearout price and will look for a fourth. I was thinking of putting two new ones on one side and running the...

    Volvo L70 loader transmission fault

Suction strainer is the baby I cleaned. It had bits of plastic and probably some clutch pack lining material after 14,000 hrs.

    Volvo L70 loader transmission fault

A friend had an L120 of about the same vintage which would stop moving. He would shut it off and then start it up again and it might go for 30 seconds or maybe two minutes. He tried everything. Turned out it was the suction screen in the transmission sump. We dropped the oil, cleaned the screen...

Detroit 671 needs a new block heater

My Wabco 555 grader has a Detroit 671 and the in-block coolant heater has a short in it. It is located behind the blower drive and is kind of a stinker to get at. I was thinking of replacing it with a recirculating heater. The upper fitting looks easy to get at on the top of the water manifold...

    Waterless coolant?

A friend recommended a website for Evans waterless antifreeze. I had never heard of this before and searched HEF and didn't find anything either. They claim no cavitation pitting or corrosion. Does anyone, (besides Jay Leno), have any experience with this stuff or is it a gimmick? Thanks. Brent

Hitachi EX 200-1LC oil leak help

Thanks Willie. There is some small leakage in some of the cylinders but I think it is not serious yet. There is a repaired crack in the side mid boom that is about two inches long that has cracked through the repair. It was not done well in my opinion. It is the second owner and it has sat for...

Hitachi EX 200-1LC oil leak help

I am looking at an EX200LC excavator that a neighbour has for sale. One of its issues is a significant oil leak that seems to be coming from the swing bearing, (please excuse my lack of the proper terminology as I am new to excavators). I had a look under the belly pan and there are some drips...

    JD 301D hydraulic problems

I thought about that as well so that is why I pulled the plug on one of the pistons and it moved up and down freely. That's only one of eight but the stroke control valve also was as shiny and clean as can be. ?????

    JD 301D hydraulic problems

I was asked to have a look at a JD 301D tractor (think 1960's!) with a front end loader at a kids camp near here. The operator got it stuck in the creek and it was a few hours before he got pulled out. He continued to use the tractor until the maintenance man told him to stop using it until he...

You guys give that tire a break will ya? Some day you'll be old and lumpy too and hopefully they won't be talking about using the high velocity deflator to put you out of your misery! Brent

    Plasma Cutter?

We have made many feed bunks out of oilfield 2-7/8" pipe and make easy saddle cuts with the 16" cutoff saw I made. We just set it at 60 degrees and make your first cut. Cut all pipes to length with this first 60 degree cut. Then I clamp on a little jig on the back of the saw table that holds the...

John Deere 410 rear axle replacement

You should coat the bearing cone and race well. This should not affect any preload. In my experience these bearings only need grease once or twice a year unless you're using it all day every day. I have seen farm tractors with the whole housing full of grease!
