D8K interesting tidbits in trans magnet and screen

I guess as long as you don't plan on ever running a winch on the Said machine you could get machined down and sleeved. A the spline would have to lathed down too to get a sleeve on

D8K interesting tidbits in trans magnet and screen

Got the trans all apart an everything looks pretty good. No pitting on gears and needle bearings on planetary shaft look good. Transfer case gear has alittle slop on the spline of the pinion gear but I have yet to take apart a d8 trans mission that doesn't. Only thing I need to replace is the...

D8K interesting tidbits in trans magnet and screen

Ya DPete darn lucky I caught it. It happened to be too wet and thought my trans oil change was coming up soon anyways. So that's how I caught it. Couldnt imagine what carnage would occur if those rollers fell out an landed In the pinion and bevel gear... Yikes! Could just change the bearing...

D8K interesting tidbits in trans magnet and screen

Just an update for you Magnet. Thanks for your input on this. Before I put my thread up here I thought it was steering clutches pieces at first. Silly thinking I was going keep it working till this job was complete. Anyways here a few pictures for you. Nailed it on the diagnosis...

D8K interesting tidbits in trans magnet and screen

Already got the 3/4 drive impact out, rattling canopy bolts out. Having a sandwich. Pulling the transmission in the bush. I've always been a "spend alittle now, to save a lot down the road" kinda guy. I know by continuing to operate it will only explode into a million pieces.... Already...

D8K interesting tidbits in trans magnet and screen

So what your saying magnet is instead of putting new oil back in I might as well pull the trans out? Haha It looks like the size of the bearing on the back of the trans shaft

D8K interesting tidbits in trans magnet and screen

Doing a trans service this morning on one of my K's and I found these in the transmission magnet/screen. I've seen a lot of crud in the screens in my days but I've never seen pieces shaped like this and such a number of them. The cat still functions perfectly normal and there was very little...

EX-270 ZAXIS 2005 Hitachi noisy hydraulics. Help

I have a ex270 and for some time now it has had a cavitation sound at full relief but only on the stick function. Doesn't seem to do it when you put either track in relief or the bucket. Mostly just the stick and maybe the boom but it's hard to tell. I am just wondering what this could possibly...

    Bailer twine and bottom rollers

So I recently did a large clean up of an old cattle farm near treherne mb. And I knew what I was getting myself into, but knowing that to do a proper job of it it was going to be a huge project lasting me well into this winter. I did 3/4s of the toughest slugging like I always do first on any...

Rubber smoke coming from crank pulley area on D8K

I got a good look at things in there and almost looks to me like the rubber sleeve that goes between the engine mount and front cover has twisted inside there, it's hard as a rock like its 30 years old and at te top of the engine mount it's a good half inch out and at the bottom is sunk deep...

Rubber smoke coming from crank pulley area on D8K

Ok I'll drop the front pan and have a better look just on my way back to the bush to check it out alittle further. I had a bar in there Lastnight and I couldn't move te balancer disc. Maybe it's still just tight enuf. Funny why it would smoke thow, it's not like it's rubbing profusely on...

Rubber smoke coming from crank pulley area on D8K

This one has me alittle worried. It's not the harmonic balancer. The disc is tight. It only smokes when it's put to work. It can sit at a wide open idle and won't smoke. I was wondering if perhaps the thrower bearing in crank is worn to the point where it's allowing the crank to slide back far...

turning up fuel on the D8

Don't turn it up man. That's not a 4 year old machine anymore! try a 50 year old machine! Engine by seem strong but that's the least of your worries when you turn it up! Especially on those low horse 8s. They have smaller axles in the final drives. I'd leave it how it is. More power isn't always...

D8K running smooth on flat ground. Starts to vibrate uphill.

Never mind guys. Found the problem. It's so simple I feel stupid mentioning it.... This hired man that was running it, who no longer works for me. Hadn't greased the front blade lift pivot points for some time. And when I'd go up hill piling topsoil I wa stripping I'd lift the blade to pile it...

D8K running smooth on flat ground. Starts to vibrate uphill.

A question for the old mechanics here. Was running one of my D8ks that a hired man has run for a few months now and it runs smooth on flat ground but when I started dozing uphill I noticed a slight sharp vibration in the machine. Could this be thrower bearing in crank?? Or? Any insight would be...
