    keepin an old girl running.

Ray, I'm glad the old grader is working out for you. They are a fairly capable machine for a small grader. I am glad that I was able help you out in the past. I ended up moving into the city a couple of years ago and sold my D grader. I still follow this site and the allischalmers.com forum.

    Magnetic bubble level

A few years ago my wife gave me a small inexpensive level about 1' long that she found at a local hardware store as a stocking stuffer at Christmas. The centre level bubble was pinned at one end and had a scale up to 4 deg. with a clamp to hold it at the setting. It had a couple of magnets on...

Need info on Fluids for an A/C Model D grader

In reading your past report you mention that the hydraulics are slow. The piping from the supply piping for the mouldboard lift and lower valves has a small orifice in the pipes to slow the flow possibly to make it easier to make fine adjustments when grading. Also some of the steel fittings...

Wheel seals on AC Model D

After re-reading my post I see that I made a mistake. The cupped washers fit over the boss on the axle shaft so that the axle nut was able to push the wheel tight onto the taper. This solved the problem of the loose wheels.

Need info on Fluids for an A/C Model D grader

I used a CV joint boot as well on my D grader. Your weak hydraulics could be caused by belt slippage. With the belt super tight i could often stall the pump. The sheave groves were worn on the crankshaft pulley. I had an adaptor made to fit the pulley and moved the pump to direct drive off the...

Wheel seals on AC Model D

It may not be the axle bearings but the wheel is loose on the tapered shaft. When I got my D grader, two wheels wobbled, one on each side. The nut was tight but these wheels were loose on the axle shafts. The problem was caused by a boss on the end of the axle shaft being too far out and the...

    Fiat Allis 65B grader

I would have to say yes but I am a little biased. I have an old Allis Model D and they were the precursor to the M65, then the FA65, FA65B, FA65C and then the Noram 65E. Like anything that is old you have to know how it was treated and what parts might be hard to find. If it is in decent shape...

Fiat allis 65 motor grader transmission troubles

I only have an older D grader parts book and there may be some differences but on the older D grader the bottom shaft that carries the brake drum is also the pinion shaft which is a single shaft to the crown gear. It shows a tapered roller bearing at the rear held in place by a snap ring and the...

Allis Chalmers Model D Motor Grader.

I believe that the post about water in the oil was water in the transaxle. If you have water in the engine oil, from posts in the farm tractor section of allischalmers.com, there can be two or three sources for water in the oil of these engines, either rusted out casting (frost) plugs in the...

I don't have water front property but I can walk across the street over to the escarpment and look down at this type of action. Always entertaining.

I thought that I had posted a comment on the rims but I must have got sidetracked. Anyway, they are a flat rim with split ring. They were/are made by Goodyear and Firestone. They were very common on trucks and, as mentioned, school buses. I had to replace one on my D grader and the tire shop had...

Allis Chalmers Model D Motor Grader.

repowerguy, I did see a small Galion grader several years ago and I thought at the time that the transaxle looked just like the one on my D grader. It is possible that Clarke or some other company actually made the transaxle for use by Allis Chalmers and Galion. I also thought that it might have...

Allis Chalmers Model D Motor Grader.

Water probably came in from a cracked rubber boot on the shift leaver. I picked up a rubber boot for a CV joint for a front wheel drive car to use as a shifter boot. Bearings numbers can possibly be cross referenced to something from a bearing supply house. I don't know who made the transaxles...

Caterpillar Model 42 Elevating grader, just curious about something

I knew as soon as someone started commenting on that disk as to what it was for. It was a what the grader operator used to communicate with the cat operator with the number of rings to signal start, stop, faster, slower, etc. That was what they used to build the roads where I lived when I was a...

Yes, the 45 is a much larger and heavier machine and I believe that they all used a Detroit diesel engine.

    Allis Chalmers Model D Grader

I assume that you are referring to me as I had mentioned that I had retrofitted power steering to my grader. When they first introduced power steering to the D graders they used a system that mounted on the steering shaft from the steering wheel. This was a system that was also used when a power...

BTC, I really don't know if Doug lived in Northwest Bay or not. I know him well and he has become a somewhat famous as a painter. His father was involved in logging and he grew up in logging camps at the time that most logs were moved by trains. The locomotives from that time are the subject of...

If you click on "The Last Whistle" it also takes you to their news letter. About three years ago in a conversation with Cec Ashley I found out that he had worked in the logging industry and I told him about Heavy Equipment News and their forestry section. He has been a faithful follower since...
