Cat 252b Rust in fuel tank

Thanks everyone! Thought I would let you all know. The local CAT dealer finished the tank scrub. There were two tank access panels that allowed them to scrub it out. They tell me that as long as I keep the tank full, should not have an issue in the future. Turns out that the fuel...

Cat 252b Rust in fuel tank

Thank you everyone - I store fuel in 55 gallon steel drums - purchased new. I store them upright on pallets in one of my barns (plenty of ventilation in the barn, but keeps the barrels under cover). No fuel filter on the hand pump (yet - will add one). In the winter, I add 'diesel heat' to...

Cat 252b Rust in fuel tank

Thank you for the reply. Unfortunately, the tank is 'part' of the chassis - so the repair shop tells me that it is not possible to boil out the rust. Any one have any other thoughts on how to have this not occur in the future?

Cat 252b Rust in fuel tank

Hoping for some advice - I bought this 2006 cat 252b in 2008 (had 330 hours). Since then, I have put 200 hours on it. Recently, I experienced power issues (smokes and has an erratic idle at high idle). So, off to the dealer I went. The dealer found rust in the fuel tank. I store my fuel in...

    G'day

Yamaman; Congratulations on your skid steer! Good Luck and hope you keep busy! I purchased a Cat, but did demo the komatsu. I actually liked it better than the cat, but the komatsu dealer would not budge on price - wanted more than the cat dealer. Not really the same comparable models, but...

    Purchased Deere CT332

Welcome to the Forum MoCat!! I am not familiar with the JD skid steer, but as for welding - make sure you clean that crack out well before welding. It might take a little time for the real experts to give their two cents - have patience. We have some really good folks on the forum!

    Honest opinions

I really think both are going to be good machines - but if you are looking for recommendations - it would depend on what you will be using it for. We have heard from lots of people (on this forum) regarding both of these machines - the new undercarriage of the CAT ctl is great. The new...

20,000 lb. behind a pickup safe?

You will have to check with your insurance company. My rep told me when I first started towing................ He basically said, if I overloaded a trailer and that caused the accident, it would be considered negligence on my part.

how much should i charge friend/contractor for using my personal 2004 f-150 on job

I would charge the fed rate for mileage: http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,,id=216048,00.html That would be fair to cover your wear and tear, maintenance, etc. I agree with diggerdave - friends and business do not always mix.

How far are u willing to travel for jobs now-a-days ??

Last year, I took a 6 month job 1000 miles from home (flew home once per month). I think with the way things are right now, we go were the work is - we do what we must to support our families.

20,000 lb. behind a pickup safe?

This thread is very informative. One thing people are not considering is that if your TRUCK (forget trailer at this point) is rated GCVWR from the manufacturer states something like this: 2010 3500 GM Duramax (Crew Cab Long Box 4WD, single rear wheels) GVWR: 11400 GM MAX TRAILER load...
