    Aux Hydraulics for Dummies

Any thoughts on the Tak 250-2 v 260 for aux activity? They appear pretty close on specs on paper.

Probably. But nowhere near as much fun.

    Aux Hydraulics for Dummies

Makes sense that you need to know what your machine is putting out, but flow Meters/gauges aren't cheap. Wonder if there are outfits that rent them?

    Aux Hydraulics for Dummies

I imagine the numbers are often wrong (inflated) on the high side.

    Aux Hydraulics for Dummies

Thanks for the comprehensive reply! Definitely noting the separate aux circuit suggestion. I’ve been looking specifically at the Tak 250-2 and 260 for just that reason.

    Aux Hydraulics for Dummies

Landowner here with acreage to maintain looking to buy a 6-7 ton mini to complement a 100hp tractor. 50-75% of mini’s utility will be mowing pond banks and slopes not accessible with tractor mowers. I don’t anticipate a lot of digging. Only other experience I have in "heavy" equipment, besides...

    What Class Excavator?

Just checked stats and have to agree that there is very little difference in ground pressure between 6 and 8 tons. The extra reach is a big plus as cleanup around pond, marsh and field edges will be a major use for the machine (not digging depth). I will also appreciate the extra hydro power...

    What Class Excavator?

Been following the replies and appreciative of all who've contributed. Based on your comments (and my needs), a 6 or 8 Ton machine with good aux. hydraulic flow would be the best compromise. The 6T I like for its weight on turf but the 8T seems to have the flow to run a heavier duty flail mower...

    What Class Excavator?

BLS Repair - Assuming "big" being the 50K class, a big machine (steel tracks) would be able to do it all, but with unacceptable damage to some of the more fragile parts of the property, ie., lawn in and around the house and pond. Being a new operator, there wouldn't be much finesse involved...

    What Class Excavator?

I've got a 100 acre farm in New England with ponds, pasture, marshes, hayfields and forest. There's also a house & barn on about 3 cleared acres. I have a steeply-sloped pond that periodically needs its banks cleared (and the shallows dredged of cattails). I have fields and forest that need...

Best Mulching Carrier: Exc or CTL?

It would seem the polycarbonate "glass" would give you vastly better visibility than bars, however how about scratching or clouding over time? I had a an issue with small airplane windshields crazing and yellowing.

Best Mulching Carrier: Exc or CTL?

Thanks for the replies (and pix). Kind of confirms to me the larger excavator is the bet. Your comment re mulching head in rock I appreciate. I will check out the Promacs.

Best Mulching Carrier: Exc or CTL?

I've got 100+ acres of semi-rocky, woodland, marsh, hayfields and pasture that need thinning out. I want to be very selective as to what is eliminated and what is allowed to remain, so dozing or clear-cutting is not an option. This is my private property and I am not a commercial operation...
