    Case 580 backhoe identification

That doesn't look like it... in that drawing, there is a hyd cylinder on the side of the boom, when both of mine are on the top of it. I still haven't found out what model hoe I have, and its leaking pretty bad!... I bet it would be expensive to bring in the entire cylinder for a rebuild.

    Case 580 backhoe identification

Oh ok, I just figured there might be a way to match the serial number to a model.... and then order the right seals for each cylinder. I'm not that good at measuring, that's why I'm diggin holes and not building houses! Would it be best to bring the gland/nut into a shop and have them order it...

    Case 580 backhoe identification

Howdy... I bought my 580b ck without the backhoe, and bought a different hoe from an older CK tractor that wasnt running. The hoe works fine, but I need to repack either the boom or dipper cylinder pretty soon, as its leaking a gallon an hour when warm and heavily used. The problem I have is...

Case 580b CK Hoe quit swinging

Atco, That little disc actually stayed in the rod. When the rod went flying out into the snow I tilted it up to drain the fluid and it fell right out in the snow. I thought it was a nickle... so I spent a half hour of digging to find it. Still trying to figure out how to measure 1000lb force...

Case 580b CK Hoe quit swinging

I hope you like my home made spanner wrench. It worked just fine! As for the bolt/rod I will be taking to an engine/machine shop tomorrow and seeing if they can fix the threads on the inside of the rod. I think what happened was the bolt backed out slowly over time, and finally when it only...

Case 580b CK Hoe quit swinging

Oh ok, pictures right from the cow's udder. I like that. I'm not sure exactly what hoe it is either, I took it off something that looked like a 530 or so... and I had to "make" it fit the tractor itself where the bushings and large pins hold the unit on. If anyone's interested in the 3 pt...

Case 580b CK Hoe quit swinging

Atco, I was wondering about that, but i have yet to find a spanner wrench (that's a big one) to take the seal gland out. I was working on taking the entire cylinder out, but I guess it's not bad to just work on it and keep it in the machine if I can. Good thing no one bought our current house...

Thanks for all the support folks! I see a kit here for $28 bucks... does that sound right, or do any of you have a better dealer that you know personally and would sell me the right parts/kit? http://www.equipmentpartssource.com/onlinestore/store_seal_hydraulic_case580b.php Oh I can't wait to...

Case 580b CK Hoe quit swinging

Hope you don't mind all the pictures, let me know if I put too many on here. After trying Oldseabees way of re-installing the pin and trying to pry the cylinders in, nothing moved on either side. So I went to 3 different stores trying to find the right fittings to cap the hose and rear...

Case 580b CK Hoe quit swinging

Thanks for the help again guys... Oldseabee, as you see in the picture, by prying on one cylinder to go in, the other came out a half an inch and then hits the boom and can't go further. I would say it's as tight as being pinned for that experiment, but I will try it that way today before I try...

And a pic of what I was playing with....

Case 580b CK Hoe quit swinging

Well folks, I went out to the winery (That's our project!) site and took a look at those cylinders. I popped the pins out and pryed a bar between the hoe and the end of the cylinder eye, and neither would go back and forth. If I pushed on one, the other one wanted to do the opposite and go out...

Case 580b CK Hoe quit swinging

Would it make a difference if the machine is running or not when I try to pull/push those cylinder rods in and out? Either way it would bypass all of the rings if they were shot right....

Case 580b CK Hoe quit swinging

Thanks for the advice, I could see taking that cylinder out isn't as easy as all of the other ones on the machine. It's a tight area down there to be working on. It looks like the only tool I need is a huge spanner wrench, and somehow the capability to torque 1000 to 1200ft lb's torque on the...

Case 580b CK Hoe quit swinging

The hard part of working on these things is the weather. My 580b/dozer/dumptruck are all 30 miles away from our house (house that's on the market!). So tomorrow morning, I'll cross my fingers and hope the old John Deere 1010 starts so I can plow the snow away enough to work on it. Do any of you...

Case 580b CK Hoe quit swinging

Puffie, I think I understand what you are taking about. Part 15 in the diagram of the swing cylinder is called a "Piston and cushion relief retaining bolt" Should be torqued on there at 1200lbs... guess I'll be bringing it in to someone else if this is what is broken. I guess the loud noise I...

Case 580b CK Hoe quit swinging

Well, I suppose doing that first would either find or eliminate the problem. It's suppose to be 15f out tomorrow, not a bad temp to lay in the snow under the machine and try to cap off one of those lines and test it. Oh I love equipment :)
