    open cabs why?

I find I like open cabs on D6 down for grading and trimming. Even in the winter just turning the blades changing your floor plate to a grate and putting a tarp around the platform height turns it reasonable. Honestly in MN we just dont running dozers that much when the ground freezes. Most of my...

demo saws, who makes the best?

Stihl has pretty much got the market cornered for chop saws. We had one partner saw and i thought it was cheap and had wierd features like spring loaded head. I find I like my 420 better then the 720 we use at work. Bigger isnt always better.

Do skid steers/track loaders have rear lift/tow?

I'm trying to figure out a decent skidloader setup for complete snow removal/salting. My house is centrally located in town four blocks from downtown. My garage would make a very nice base for alot of snowplowing with in a mile area. I'm not saying I've sold myself on this idea but I'd much...

    Good, side certifications to have.

Its funny there is a magical personel number where you need all the certifications and where its worthless. Last company I need everything and they paid for it. My new company they mocked I was a university erosion inspector/installer :). Only certifaction I get this year is confined spaces...

Want to buy a skid steer for snow removal, pros and cons

Only real issue with skidloader snowplowing is the logistics of light snows. Your almost salting more and maintain main travel alleys then actual large snowfalls pushes. Just me but I think plowing with trucks besides the little stuff listed above is foolish waste of money.

Do skid steers/track loaders have rear lift/tow?

Call me crazy but I want to try rigging up a tailgate spreader behind a skidloader for awhile.

What have you found while digging?

We cleaned up a old building that was pushed in filling the basement and paved over for parking lot. The old timers before we started said it was a old speak easy. We finally got to the back of the basement near the new Legion building and found a 12" steel door in the corner. We ripped the...

    Good, side certifications to have.

Hehe I hated that at my old job. You could drive a tandem, jump in a grader yet you couldnt run a forklift in the yard unless you got carded. Its a stupid osha thing thats mixing construction with factory work.

Advice on starting into skidsteer work??

Its not a bad idea really. We parked all the big equipment and did ALOT of facility maintence work with just a 550,skidsteer,10k mini. The key here is the business was established and a know commodity to the locales. Without this work I highly doubt I'd be still working with them. The issue its...

    Starting Out On My Own

Lost my orginal post. Trucks means you have ties to orginal company or a foundation of transport. Construction means you have huge HUGE finances or very experienced hands to run the business. Lanscrapers dont make money unless they excelled at it. If you want to start a business and have no tie...

Advice on starting into skidsteer work??

Skidsteer only work doesnt really work. You'll be directly competeing against daily rental rates and laidoff construction workers looking for cash. Also if you dont have a idea if this could work I doubt you'll find enuff work for a planned 1000 hour year. To be honest just about everyone can...

I could still buy one of our old loaders for 12k but I dont think it will fit in my driveway.

    Michigan 175B

This a a picture of a few 175's we have at the pit. We basically only used them for loading end dumps/side dumps. Heavy use was snow plowing with 3ft bucket extensions on the sides. These have to be my favorite machines as well for power weight reliability. I really wish the new equipment had...

This can't be good for it!

Hehe that was awesome. I'm pretty sure it was a joke to pick on the video operators of the world.

Caterpillar 639D - Twin Engine Water Truck

I'm pretty sure 29 Palms Marine Corp Base still has one of these for its Range Maintence Fleet. Works awesome for long stretches of road getting laided as fast as belly dumps can line up.

    Bubble in the butt

I havent seen this such a issue for dozer operators but seen a few grader guys switch back to no gps. You might as well have them run rollers.

    Stumping with a ripper

A D6 with a six way would be about as multi-tool as it gets for road and stump clearing. Its shouldn't be a problem to cut roots roll stumps.
