    14c fiat

When you're finished, be sure and throw any and all tools you used over your right shoulder. Or better yet, leave them on the machine or drop them in the bellypan. That way the sale bill will read "Fiat-Allis 14C bulldozer, recent overhaul, non-running, with misc. tools scattered throughout"...

963B Hydro/ Hydraulic acting up question

One possible easy solution would be to make sure the throttle is pulled all the way back in the wide open notch. 100-150 RPM makes a huge difference. We had the same problem with a 953, all pressures checked out to within specs. I was slot dozing and it would just stall out, got pizzed at it...

My 953C trackloader with quick attach dozer blade

Well, if that works for you, that's great. I usually build 15-20,000 feet of terraces every fall, most all of it with a bucket equipped 953. When the frost gets too deep they send out the 963 with the ripper. I had the rare treat of a D6 helping this week to get a job wrapped up before...

My 953C trackloader with quick attach dozer blade

So, what's the purpose of putting a dozer blade on a loader? Seems like quite a waste of effort to me. You can do anything a dozer can do with a bucket, usually better.

    Need GPS Equipment Help!

GPS won't work on a trencher, at least not good enough for me, stick with laser. Love them or hate them, Zeigler in Altoona will set you up if you want it anyway.

    hydraulic system, ouch

You should take an oil sample and have it analyzed. They can usually tell where it came from by what type metal it is. It's nearly impossible to get all the contaminated oil out just by draining the tank. Over half the oil is still in the system. Make sure you put on high efficiency clean-out...

    Bad news at grove crane

The Terex plant in Waverly, Iowa has totally shut down operations for one month. Rumor is it might be longer than that.

    farm dozer?

A crawler loader is your best bet. I build roads and drives all the time with a 953, easy to put a crown on. You can do anything a dozer can do with a loader cat, plus a whole lot more.

    Skidsteer design input

Get yourself a Hydra-Mac, look at it, study it, and you have your answers. Yeah, I know, they don't make them anymore.:Banghead I don't understand that, they were, and still are one of the most rugged, reliable, and innovative skidloaders built.

    Shop heat.

We have a wast oil burner and radiant propane heaters. We jumped on the oil burner bandwagon and bought one 6 years ago for $11,000. I still don't think it has paid for itself.:Banghead It doesn't require heavy maintanence, but still, you have to clean it regularly, change filters often, and...

Anyone tried/use a skid steer with a blade.

A blade on a wheeled skidloader doesn't work worth a darn. It's too "3-legged", meaning every time one of the wheels goes over just the slightest bump it translates to the blade. They do work a little better on a CTL, but still, just not enough of a machine. I suppose for just rough grading or...

Low power and lots of smoke(complete overhaul)D6H

Here's a total shot in the dark, but could it be a fuel quality issue? I know in the last few years the quality of fuel we've been getting has really dropped. Don't even get me started on biodiesel, that stuff is crap. Used to be able to easily run a hard ten hour day and an hour or 2 the next...

    Just How Slow Is it?

We were going all out untill the weather totally shut us down about a month ago. Could have worked all winter. Ag economy is still pretty good and the farmers made some money. Did more soil work this year than I have in the last five years combined. Heard we picked up a few commercial jobs just...

    moving/diverting a river?

Would it be possible for you to rip-rap the river bank area in question, where you plan on driving through? While in the process, place it about 8 or 10 feet thick, or however wide you feel comfortable driving on. I guess as long as you have enough width to not alter the flow radically, you...

    Exclamation warning light

If all fluid levels are good, could possibly be a sensor or sending unit starting to go bad. Start with oil pressure and temperature first, I've had to replace both of those before. Maybe a plugged filter?:beatsme

    953 trans problem ????

You shouldn't have put trans. problem in the headline then.:Banghead If you can't explain what your problem is properly, how are you going to understand what people are recommending to find the solution.:beatsme

    953B or 953C

The C series is twice the machine a B is. Yes, the hydraulic and hydrostatic drive system use the same oil, but each system has it's own filter plus a filter on the return in the tank. We've never had a lick of trouble with the final drives on any Caterpillar track loader I've ever been around...

    High hours??

To me 4000 hrs is just getting broke in. At this point I would start measuring undercarriage wear more seriously, maybe take some shims out of the blade assembly, perhaps a little engine and injector tune-up. Up around 15-20,000 hrs is high to me, but I'm not around super high production dirt...

    953 trans problem ????

A 953 doesn't have a transmission, it's hydrostatic drive. If your engine is low on horsepower it will rob power away from the drive system first. Possible plugged filter or bad valve.

    Farm excavator

Don't forget to update your liability insurance, big time. Hit one fiber optic cable that the landowner swears isn't there and you won't have to worry about making excavator payments any more.
