Mini-ex Operator Needed for 2 Days in MA

I just became short handed for a job and am in need of a machine operator licensed and experienced with a mini-ex. The job is Monday and Tuesday on Nantucket. We have tickets and rooms already. PM me if you know someone who could help out.

What do you use your skid steer for?

The small wheel and lack of visibility. I did not feel safe having a crew member in the area but needed them to direct the cutting. This was the CAT grinder. The QuickAttach unit looks like it might be a better tool.

    Gehl Skid Steers

T-bar is what they had. The Gehl dealer around the corner was just opening for business. I use the pilot controls in the CAT. Almost became a statistic in an old Thomas using foot controls. Won't go near them now. I've got two left feet. I got experience in some loaders before taking on business...

    New Meow Down Under

I have to agree here. The 247B responds better than the 257B. She is a bit burdensome sometimes.

Tread Cuts - How Long Do I Have

Thanks guys. I'll be watching it closely.

What do you use your skid steer for?

Steve what attachments do you have? I have the general use bucket and forks. I have rented other tools like the stump grinder (not that useful compared to a true standalone grinder), auger (nice tool), rotodarian (very nice tool), leveler (I might not have gotten the hang of that one, didn't see...

Tread Cuts - How Long Do I Have

Not a tire but a track. Yes it does cut across the tread. I could peal the tread/ridge back if needed as it cuts across and goes diagonally (slices under) into the tread until it gets to valley where at one point it punctures the track. I can see through the hole.

Tread Cuts - How Long Do I Have

Apparently my operator found some nice sharp stones to cut right through a tread on the CAT 257B. The cut slices through one of the ridges on top of the tread and down into the space in between two ridges. I can see right threw the tread. The slice is about three inches long. How long do you...

    Gehl Skid Steers

Cannot stand the Gehl controls, and therefore the machines. Too bad, too. There is a dealer right around the corner. I rented a brand new one to test when I was getting ready to purchase a machine. They make good farming equipment supposedly but the skid was horrible. It did not seem as if they...

    Which one?

It has been a couple years since I drove either one but I found the Bobcat a bit behind in technology too. Not necessarily size or comfort. I found the Deere to be too wide, restricting in view, and the controls too touchy. It was the only machine I have ever had to get pulled out of a job. I...

Help deciding on tracked skid steer

As mentioned tensioning and wear are contributors to that issue. I wish they had the videos online. Perhaps somebody talented enough with YouTube or other video site could get it done. CAT has a few training videos available. One we received on VHS and we had transferred to DVD (poorly done...

Help deciding on tracked skid steer

I'm not sure I am seeing the same thing in the snow. We had a sloped lot, actually two, this past winter that all wheeled vehicles had difficulty on but the CAT 257B worked beautifully. It was our saving grace. It handled the slopes and worked best when the ground was wet. Maybe it was...

Help deciding on tracked skid steer

Only if improperly used. Its the nubs on the inside of the tracks that will wear if riding on slopes sideways, doing 360's or 180's, the tracks are improperly tensioned, etc.

Help deciding on tracked skid steer

OK, you already went with the wheeled skid but for anyone who might have the same question later I strongly suggest looking at the CAT MTL series. First, under state or Federal contract they have a program that will help you get the machine even though it cost more up front. Second, as...

    4 in 1 bucket

Thanks Steve. Which attachments did you purchase from them or find most useful? I'm tending toward a rod bucket (possibly with grapple), versa-blade, and auger.

    Chain hooks on buckets

OK, I hate bending, denting, scratching anything on my machine and yesterday I bent the step on the bucket by pulling something with a chain. Where am I supposed to hook the chain? So, now I am thinking there should be one or more hooks on the bucket. I'm thinking on the top edge somewhere. Has...

    4 in 1 bucket

Is there a manufacturer that is better than others? How do you determine if it is within specs of your machine? Someone told me recently that CAT had to approve any attachment I wanted to buy for our machine from a third party manufacturer.

    Brontosaurus

Thank you. From the descriptions I have been reading I thought it was more than an attachment. Looks like I need an excavator :)

    Brontosaurus

Anybody know what exactly a "Brontosaurus" cutter/mulcher is? I am looking for manufacturers, model numbers, etc. I see reference to them in vegetation control permit applications. We are looking for something in this arena but need more info. Thanks

    Update on operators course.

I forgot which school or program you are attending. Which one and for which license?
