rubber tracked skid steer vs tracks over wheels which is best, most productive

Tracked machines can definitely be more productive. It is when you are in situations where the application might cause the track system to fail, this is when you need to take a hard look at the cost and whether the more production outweighs the maintenance and initial cost. There will be other...

rubber tracked skid steer vs tracks over wheels which is best, most productive

Saying that some of the track issues are that ss are not application specific designed..... used for many tasks.....or maybe better put they are designed for a very large, diverse customer base. Tracked SS can be used in forestry and other harsh environments.... just need to be aware of the...

rubber tracked skid steer vs tracks over wheels which is best, most productive

Experience I've had with both: -CTL, MTL VTS will out perform a SS on many applications -Initual cost of the tracked system is a major neg -Maintenance on certain track system can be very high -Very terrain/application dependent whether the added performance outweighs the...

OTT Tracks on Cat C Series??

Weight wise, the 262 didn't have any problems at all handling the mower. If I was running over the track or VTS full time, I would look hard at going to the 272, if you are looking in the Cat line. Ran a 262C with VTS a couple summers ago for about 3 months. It was borderline heating up all...

OTT Tracks on Cat C Series??

If I remember correctly....to put on or adjust tension a strap and binder were used. Here is a pic taken a few years back of the setup

OTT Tracks on Cat C Series??

3 years back I had a 262C with foam filled tires and over the tire grouser tracks...... made a little tank out of it!

    Catercarriage vs Terex/ASV survey

Yeah...I'll definitely second the ride. Since our 287 has had the heavier axles on....knock on wood, haven't had any issues. Not sure and should check what axles were put on the 297. I was just curious if there was a difference in axle failures between the ASV's and the Cat's. Or if people...

    Catercarriage vs Terex/ASV survey

All right, been a while since I posted. Usually takes some dumb a** thing with my Caterpillar skid steer to get me fired up again. This is for the ASV people out there - how many of you are having axles snap on your 80 and 100 HP machines? In particular, the front axles? We have broken or...

What would be your pick and why??

I've posted enough about the failures we've had with Caterpillar's undercarriage and at least how enough of us in the US would say they didn't man up to the problem....so my first choice would not be Cat even though I own such creatures. Caterpillar does have great service, but since I work for...

    Loegering's new track system

Ran a new VTS system on a Cat 262C for 2 months. Ran it alongside the MTL system and the same horsepower in a 287C. Here is what I've seen, at least on a Cat perspective, at least on the VTS. On the 262C, the system is under horsepower and doing the same work you use considerably more fuel...

    Time for new tracks

Bought 2 sets of tracks (one for a 297C and one for a 287C) from Rubbertrax. So far, they have held up pretty good. They were about $3600 a set. Time will only tell but in our type of conditions, I think they will last as long as OEM.

    Cater stick

Have a 287C with under 2500 hours....right joystick came uncalibrated. Mechanic came out, ran diagnostics, recalibrated. Said if it happened again, probably a joystick going bad. Next day, was uncalibrated again. Anyone else have any experience like this? I do understand with all the...

    Caterpillar Undercarriage Recall?

John, Unfortunately, I've had more than one experience with the Cat CTL's. The first machine we had which was roughly 2 yrs ago, we were losing tracks almost once a day. Tracks came off both forward and backwards, but more moving forward. I would like to say it was all on slopes, but twice it...

    Caterpillar Undercarriage Recall?

John, I think the salesman was saying recall and PIP a little interchangeably. The one machine we have has had quite a few PIP's and this was one of my major complaints. It had nearly 2 months of warranty work. Most of the time, the initial response was to blame it on the terrain or...

    Caterpillar Undercarriage Recall?

Ok - let me re-try this, leaving the emotion and past history out. Undercarriage recall - my question here has to do with the fact that under some circumstances, such as the one we work in, these undercarriages are failing. The point that they were sold to do this is moot. What I want to...

    Caterpillar Undercarriage Recall?

One thing I need to make clear and seems to be cloudy in this whole deal. The reason I hammer so hard on the Cat undercarriage is that I have very few complaints on the rest of the machine. There are little things here and there everybody can pick apart. The major things such as...

    Caterpillar Undercarriage Recall?

Digdeep, I would speculate that a lot of the problem is due to a breakdown in the chain of information from the top down. I don't know any dealers that would intentionally sell a machine with problems. Obviously one dissatisfied customer bears more weight than 10 happy ones. On the CTL...

    Caterpillar Undercarriage Recall?

Yes, that is what us Caterpillar customers are: trolls. Court of law (I thought this was a forum but do you know of something else in the works)? So, you are telling me that Regional Cat Reps, local Cat mechanics, Cat salesman, are all going to perjure themselves on what they've said and...
