    Champion D680 with seized engine

I would try turning it a little bit before removing the injectors, if it doesn't turn at least a little you may want to run not walk away from the deal. The 6-71 is a good engine but if it has gotten water in it to seize it up you will spend a fair peice of dought in New Zealand getting it going...

So...what is the concensus? The best diesel engine ever made?

I don't think anyone else can compare to the number of engines built and the longevity of production of the inline 6-71 screemer, they were in constant production from 1939 to 1999, can't seem to nail down the production numbers but it has to be a bunch. They seem to run a long time, simple...

    Cat D7 popularity

I too have a D7G, I find it to be the right size machine for most all the jobs I do, a D6 would be too small and an 8 is just to big to move around. My 7G is a 1976 and it has just worn out the original tracks, it has about 900 hours on the new ones, it has a skin cab over the rops and I...

How do you think operators should treat equipment?

good luck finding the guy you described, there is no one that cares like the owner operator and then not all of them care much either. I care about my machines because I have to fix em if they break. I don't believe in auto lube but an electric grease gun is a must on an excavator.

    Starting out with a backhoe

If you have some work lined up I would rent a machine till ya get your feet wet. I did that and found out I needed a 22 ton excavator instead of a tractor back hoe. It's lots easier to get out of a rented machine than an owned one.

    Changing Sprockets

When I have to break tracks apart I use a large Chicago Pneumatic air hammer and two rose buds, I heat both links at the same time and when there is a red glow on the links a quick blast with the air hammer and the pin is out. The key is to get the links hot quick before the pin gets hot so the...

    who's got you in construction?

Nobody would let me on their dozer, crane, truck or backhoe so I just started buying them myself. I started out with a $20 dragline, moved into a $2000 dozer and then a excavator after renting tractor backhoes for a few years, the rest is just history now.

    old terex

I stumbled onto these on a shopping trip to South Dakota, the owner told me the tandem ones haul 50 yards, they have a twin turboed 12v-71 in the front and a 8v71T in the back, the normal TS 24s have a natural asperated 12v-71 in the front and a inline 6-71 in the rear position.
