Where is the hardest Asphalt that you have milled?

I did some shoulder work with a 1200 on the future I-22 in MS that had river rock in the mix. The asphalt was reddish and by far the most abrasive/hard asphalt I have ever milled, and it did not take a few hours to ruin a set..more like 1 hour or less. Not only the tooth wear but it was wearing...

    W2100 vs W2000

You referring to the boxes that attach to the back of a vehicle and then you drive the road scanning for buried treasures? It connects to a laptop and the screen will display anything buried. That worked pretty good in finding alot of paved over manholes/railroad tracks when we used it in...

    Rear Steer options

On the wirtgens you can align the tracks via the screen up top. Donnie C in Florida showed me how to do it,but I have forgotten how to get into that option,..you cut the tracks all the way right and wrote down the # then cut the tracks all the way left and wrote down the #,split them and that...

    W2100 vs W2000

I have been around several different 2100's in the last 4 weeks and I have to say I am not impressed at all. The w2000 models I have run will walk the dog in the 2-4" depths but the w2100s seem sluggish, alot of track slippage. I have not had a chance to get into any deep cuts yet which I am sure...

Toegrinder you should have seen the rear sprockets and chains on that machine I wish I would of taken some pics, the worse I have ever seen. I was put on this particular crew for 3 weeks,3 weeks to many at that. The guy over that machine had 10+years milling experience but knew F all about...

12ft diamond drum getting ready to be switched with a current micro drum. Company just received 3 diamond drums,2 of the 12ft and 1 of the 6ft variety. From previous experience with the drums they seem to be very practical on tooth savings and man hours versus standard cutters. Dreading the...

    Lets see your Teeth

We are loving the novapick setup...252K+ sq yds and changed 4 teeth in that time. With the price of teeth skyrocketing over the $5 mark, the owner is looking at adding novapick to the other mills we have. Yes milling drum it is a lease to buy originally the rumor was a rental, they have not put...

    Lets see your Teeth

The outfit I am with just installed a novapick drum into a w2000, the cut looks real good. Its a rental and they provide a certain number of teeth per month. After some heavy milling will have a better idea of the cost vs. factor.

    Tower Cranes!!!

Stacking hatch covers on barges in 25mph+ winds running a peccos that some of the operators would swing wide open and then jam it in the opposite direction to see how far the structure would twist. That rig was like fishing for sharks with a zebco 33. No pics, wish I had taken pics of some of...

    Question for Paver Operators.

In my brief experiences running pavers/shuttle buggies, the dump man should be there helping you,I would just push the trucks along. Are you not dumping into a shuttle buggy, curious as you say its interstate work?

    wirtgen 210

It sounds like a beast... From what I am hearing from the crew on the 200, is that machine is also a dream. I have heard we are going to keep the 200 ,after the 210 is delivered. The mgr is at conex now so maybe he will bring back a 12 ft'er which we need badly or a red/white/blue machine.

    wirtgen 210

The company I am with purchased a 210 a couple weeks ago. Will be delivered early April so they gave us a 200 to burn up in the meantime, like the seats on the 200/210 will make sitting down while milling much easier and more comfortable, only thing it needs is a cup holder in the armrests. :)

    Lets see your Teeth

I find that true, just my experiences with different teeth. Currently using kennametal RZ16 I believe. They seem to be doing the job,15k-18k before a change. Although on some recent city streets we were only getting around 7ksq yd before a change....superpave mix from what the inspector told...

The ins and outs of milling .

Do a walk around before getting up top. Check your fluids of course. Lock out & Tag out before doing maintenance. Before milling in a minefield I will go paint lines where the manholes and water valves etc..are located. I try to avoid walking next to the live traffic lane so I generally set...

I am from Indiana (sunny side of louisville) worked out of local 181 for many years operating cranes and dozers etc... the pay was per hour was great but without much overtime. Favorite Mills

For power and a machine that was a cakewalk to do maintenance as well as operate I have never came across a mill that compares to the Roadtec RX50's I ran back in the 90's at Turtle. Milling drum:Came down your way over the holidays,Cannot remember the name of the construction company that had...

    square yardage....

Buster,on our cleanup (we did not have a dedicated cleanup crew which is a big reason why everything was always screwed up when it was time to be off the road) They had a 2ft mill attached to a cat skid steer,a bachoe ,1 broom tractor and a vacuum truck... The other half of the company I was...

    square yardage....

So true on cleanup. I have seen many times when we milled downtown streets and were supposed to be off the road by 7am...at 10am we would still be out there doing cleanup and putting asphalt around manholes etc... Happened very frequently ^ needless to say its 1 reason I am no longer at that...
