hats off to guys that swing steel

We can't pick without tag lines on loads, however I did put my foot down when they tied one to a concrete bucket. So I guess we use tag lines 99.94% of the time.

    Things done at Work

what's sad is all those 40's 50's & 60's models going to the crusher, then coming back from China or Japan as your future toaster.

    Dirty Cabs on Equipment

tobacco spit and cigarettes in general, nothing like setting in an ash tray all day. Then going home smelling like you smoked a carton of cigarettes that day.

Pics of fixing a large crack

It reminds me on a p-38 can opener. Looks like you may place in the ground, then start cutting all the roots around the tree. Then maybe a gentle push, :)

    LSI Crane Instrumentation

If you two part the line you are just adding weight to your load, time 2 instead of 1. Plus the the weight is coming off the back end . Though it's not a lot of weight it's still adds up when your nearing the limit.

    LSI Crane Instrumentation

We had a Link belt also with that system, It was basically in override mode all the time. We had it rented for a couple of months, I don't think it worked more than a week. Mechanic came out a couple of times but couldn't fix it. It also went thru batteries like a kid eating M&M's. They were an...

    hoist line spooling

Wind will also screw with the spooling of cable, It's almost a daily chore to keep the line reeving on the drum, correctly when the wind in blowing 20+ everyday. I had new line put on about 3 months ago. It must be one billionth on a inch bigger than the old cable. I won't lay on the drum...

    excavator versus bucket wheel excavator

Yeah, that company bit the dust about 30 years ago. Several bad bids on major projects. One of them left 5 million dollars on the table, I had talked to the second bidder later. He said they would have lost money if they had won. Their bid total was 13 million. The job had 150 miles of water...

    excavator versus bucket wheel excavator

Excavators are faster in the city, when you dozens of utilities to cross daily. But in the wide open spaces, trencher is hands down faster. We did have to hook a dozer on the front of trenchers to pull thru mud, ice, snow and steep hills. Hook up a winch, help them thru the tough spots. we...

    Clamp-on bucket forks

#1 is a real pain, they don't stay tight. #2 are ok #3 the better of the 3 Cat has a set that are attached to a 4 in 1 bucket. They fold back and store on the hoe, not the best but work

    Sucking over the back roller

I drove an old Autocar in the late seventies, Nice truck for being 20 years old. It had a 4x5 tranny, plus what seemed like a 4 foot steering wheel.

    Sucking over the back roller

pulled a lot of broke down equipment onto a folding neck trailer. They still haul drill mud, pipe racks and pump jacks on the back of trucks. I have seen a truck running around with a backhoe, but it has a dovetail. It still has the winch on it, so he may do some of the pulling stuff onto the truck

Water truck: How big it too big (Fire)

All the wind farms I have worked on use their 3000 gallon trucks to fight fires and/or support local fire departments. Almost a weekly deal when we were in Oklahoma, the trucks were kept full at all times. About half of them had remote water cannons on the top of the tank. They did require a...

Disabling My Backhoe To Thwart Theft?

I have seen a few of these around, It locks the outrigger in the down position. It makes it really tough to drive with the outrigger down and a wheel off the ground http://www.equipmentlock.com/stabilizer_home.asp

    Dump trucking question :)

Dump truck drivers around here get paid less than what you pay for a gallon of diesel. Some jobs do pay a little more. Not sure what you would get in Kentucky.

    Recycled Concrete for Base

It's used here quite often. It's called Tensar rock, I guess because they use the Tensar fabric underneath the rock. A few jobs even brought a portable crusher to the site. They crush onsite, reuse it as base. It's fairly cheap also, 8 bucks a ton, about 1 hour of haul time. The AB3 type rock is...
