Leaking from the hydraulic tank hose to pick up pump-New Holland 555e

Suppose to be some pressure at the tank, keeps the pump from cavitating. Try running it without the cap for a minute. Reminds me of a funny, not so funny moment when a kid at the shop tried to change a hyd filter on a Kubota excavator without relieving the pressure first. Bright side was he'd...

Looking for parts for a 1949 Cat D4?

UC Davis in CA. has a museum with a few of the first Cat's ever made and tons of resources for that old iron. If memory serves they have serial #2 D6 they were restoring. Use to go to all our CNH training classes up there and took the tour many times. Maybe reach out to them and see if they can...

Rolled over and flooded intake with crank case oil - Hydrostatic lock

I've seen it before. Panicked rookie and a Cat skid steer. Engine ran away and by the time they got it shut down it was too late. Expensive mistake for sure. It would start but that engine was toast. Once you cleared the hydro lock it that should have been it. Not like it would hydro again...

    Caterpillar M315 strange engine noise

Kinda like could you hold the phone a little closer to the engine. I can't hear it from here. In my experience that's a good little engine so without seeing and hearing it in person I wouldn't venture a guess. Be a great service/side gig to provide to prospective buyers for a tractor mechanic if...

Swing controls opposite. Joystick Right=swing left

I did that once years ago. Once. After that I always made sure I timed the motor correctly. Sucked having to remove and fix that puppy twice.

Snorkel TB 60 turn table issue.

Generally if it's just one function effected from the platform I'd say the wire loom, servo or controller contacts would be suspect. The pots control all functions in most cases. Been awhile sense I've played with any of the Snorkels so rather than type out what each one does I'll refer to an...

    Deere 555 won't curl

Depends. With that vintage of JD loaders the control linkage is usually my first suspect. But without knowing more about it or operating it it's hard to say. Is it deadheading when you operate the function or is the stick just flopping around?

Case 580c steering cylinder rebuild - help

Don't worry about it unless its literally brittle and falling apart. Most come as a split ring anyway. All it does is keeps the piston from coming in contact with the cylinder

Case 580c steering cylinder rebuild - help

Yup and now you know why I hate that design. Easiest solution is to drive the gland in far enough to get a small rotary file or flapper disk in there and knock that lip down a bit. Careful not to hit the rod though.

Case 580c steering cylinder rebuild - help

JD uses that design extensively and it's a PITA! But anyway you need to press or carefully with hammer and dowel move the gland inwards to access the outer retaining ring. All of it or the gland and piston will not come out. Also cleaning up the corrosion and gunk that builds up in there...

    JCB Backhoe Valve Sticking Badly

Lots of chewed up metal. Maybe part of the filter that took a trip through the work pump? Or at least judging by the noise this machine was making and some ground up cast steel that was my first guess. I was able to clear the spools and although they were junked I was able to get the boom stowed...

    JCB Backhoe Valve Sticking Badly

I've been blessed over the last 30 years and haven't had a lot of encounters with the JCB stuff but I have a doosy of a story about a JCB hoe that experienced a similar same fate. Seems this rich guy bought a piece of property in a ritzy part of the county and bought a used JCB hoe to do a lot...

    genie boomlift decreased groundspeed

Generally that would be an indication you have a proximity switch fault. Machine thinks it's lift is in the air even though in the stowed position.

Cat 215 96L Hydraulic leak at control valve

Just a common flange fitting in which case it's most likely just a blown O-Ring. Kind of the beauty of that design as the O-Ring is the weak point and an easy repair as opposed to replacing the whole line.

    bobcat T200

Everything I've come across of that vintage the batt side of the ign switch is always hot. I take it you've already checked the ign switch?

    1969 ford 4500 4 stick wain-roy backhoe conversion to 2 stick

Generally its done with a linkage conversion kit but good luck finding one for something that old. Worked for a big equipment rental outfit for a spell back in the day and lost count of how many I swapped out. New equipment it's as easy as turning a valve or flipping a switch to go from ISO to...
