    Land development Q's

Or being able to sit in one spot and dig/flat bottom about 15 ft of trench, lay utilities, and backfill! x2 on the articulating thumb... clearing or most anything where a thumb is used. Most full size machines come with them. A little over a year ago I was quoted about 5k just for that upgrade...

    Land development Q's

My opinion, fwiw, as I've only operated one Sany 26 for about 15 minutes...Don't even consider it. I hear the full size ones are all right, but you'll never get the same resale value as a Japanese branded machine. Yes on inspections! I currently have 3 different machines ranging from 1987-1997...

    Land development Q's

How are your mechanical skills? Do you have any working capital at hand? I'd be looking for a mid/late 90's 120 size machine were I you. Hitachi/Deere (my bias), komatsu, cat, kobelco/case, are all good. If I have the room/access, and ground impact is no concern, i'll take my 120 over my mini to...

Utilities across a driveway for new construction

yes sir...seen some goofy stuff, was mucking out a ditch once just to be nice after replacing a culvert and low and behold the water service was in the muck and weeds at the ditch bottom... i cant see how they could have cut the ditch after the water line without hitting it... I think whoever...

Utilities across a driveway for new construction

It helps to dig slow and carefully with a smooth edge bucket and have a guy standing in front of you watching every swipe. Never a bad idea to carefully pothole with a shovel where the utility is marked. Be watching for a change in material.. ie if you are digging in clay and start hitting a...

Dragging a concrete septic tank off of a trailer

Thank you, this is the kind of constructive criticism I was looking for. At this point I think my plan is to try to slide it off with plywood (possibly greased), and a thick strap slung as low as possible so it is around the tank floor. If it looks like too much strain I can wait and lift it. At...

Dragging a concrete septic tank off of a trailer

Thats a good idea, but I think I would just have my excavator moved home before i went to all the trouble. Starting to think I just need a big old clunker 200-300 size for the odd job like this Got one that size too already, saving it for the next property which will be a few hundred miles...

Dragging a concrete septic tank off of a trailer

It was previously used as a water cistern and i am salvaging it.. I could have hired a boom truck but needed an excavator at the jobsite anyways. Only reason I talked to the precast place was to borrow a lifting sling.

Dragging a concrete septic tank off of a trailer

Thank you, yes it is a smaller tilt trailer, 21k 3 axle, thin wedge style beaver tail, so there will be no drop. Mostly wondering how it might fair the lateral pull, guy i talked to at the local precast place didn't seem to think it was the best plan, but also he was just a salesman...

Dragging a concrete septic tank off of a trailer

Hello all, and thank you in advance. I'd like to figure out how i could unload a 1000 gallon concrete septic tank off of a low, fender style tilt equipment trailer. My initial thought was to wrap a hefty strap around the base of it and just pull it off with a dozer. I have nothing to lift it...
