    Cat 977L

yes those cylinder piston nuts were supposed torqued to like 800lbs/ft crazy torque..tough to move without a cylinder bench to bolt the rod down to..but you made do and got it done..nice work. thats a nice machine with cab and winch AND 4in1 !

    977l steering

Buford, first thing to check,do you have pressure on the steer valve?,there should be a 1/8"pipe port there to check pressures-the steer pedals linkage connect to this valve..its under the seat on top of the bevel gear box. if not check pump for blockage or damage, check bevel gear box(rear of...

New Cat 977K owner with questions

WelderDave I disconnected the lift cylinder lines so I could pull the right side lift cylinder off the machine for replacement..pulled the bucket off first and lifted the mast up in the air with a 4000lb forklift, then set the lift lock link and inserted my own cylinder brace to act as a safety...

    Cat 977L Fuel Leak

I saw the YT video you posted the 977L runner it didnt sound too bad, mighta just needed a good afternoon snortin' to clear it out..shame about the one with the smashed engine..even the injection pump off of that coulda brought $500 or better as a core..anyway there's still a lot of these 977s...

    977h bevel gear drain

I have a K model 977, if you have a late model H it might be the same; it may also be hidden behind a lot of mud and crap. look in the underneath center rear of the bevel gearbox(very back end housing of the machine)-the bevel gear drain plug is right in the middle,I think it was 3/4"square...

New Cat 977K owner with questions

working on a larger machine like a 977 can be a challenge but so much easier with a forklift..track/rail replacement, cylinder swops, ROPS and mast removal..all easy (actually a one-man job)-if you set it up right..I lifted the mast up in the air with the 977 hyd lift lever in 'float' position...

New Cat 977K owner with questions

To connect into the third valve lines you'd have to intercept the flow before the swivel joints, they are located on the firewall(behind the "dashboard"-but in the engine compartment) the hydraulic lines are all steel hardlines, from the valve/tank up thru the swivel joints, up the loader mast...

New Cat 977K owner with questions

FWIW if you want hydraulics for the ripper just get a 3valve hyd tank for the 977, don't try to intercept the hydraulic lines as pressure doubling can result without an additional relief valve inline..I answered this question earlier in a different thread here

New Cat 977K owner with questions

my 977K has two(2)counterweights on it, they are optional, you can stack them to as many as you need with the appropriate length thru bolts, from what I can remember the CW's are 2"thick and 1500lbs each, which seems about right with the dimensions of the rear of the loader. I've lifted 15K on...

    Burnt cat 977

old thread but I thought I'd add you can move a crawler fairly easy if you lift up on the track itself(creating rotation)-as it goes around the rear sprocket with a forklift..leverage and lifting power will move the machine easily

    Burnt cat 977

cut some sections of 3"ID steel pipe about 15"long, then cut that lengthwise so it'l fit over the lift cylinder rods as mast props..don't rely on burned hydraulics to support the mast..safety first

    Cat 977 undercarriage

no the 977L has the 8.5"pitch track and the older 977K series has the 8".. 18"w track pads should be interchangeable tho..the early 977K had the D330 and the 977L had the 3306. Cat changed to the 3306 in the 977Ks somewhere in the later serial # range; maybe Nige can chime in on that. If you...

    955K Tilt cylinder leaking

I pulled the tilt pins on my 977K when I changed out the H-frame mast and they would NOT budge, not even with a maul and working them back and forth with PB Blaster..finally had to use a hydraulic pull-back ram with a cobbled-up support to force them and it took quite a lot of force to get them...

    977l steering issues

sounds like you have a blown steer clutch piston seal or two,one per side..there is a hydraulic piston behind the clutch that pushes the steer clutch in to steer..the foot pedal controls the steer valve on top of the rear housing, this valve sends trans oil to each side steer piston down inside...

Yale GLP050 Forklift Transmission Problems Updated

make sure no one has tampered with the valve body and all pieces are intact..usually there is a pair of springs in the valve body that centers the inching valve..if one is missing the valve spool will find it's own center and it may be partially diverting or blocking flow depending..I went thru...

    cylinder sleeve removal

last engine I did like this was an Isuzu C240 diesel, it had thin chrome dry liners like these..just take a oxy/acyet welding torch(not a cutting torch) and heat the old liner up in one strip top to bottom and peel it out where its red hot. Then the liner will come out with little effort..might...

    Non computerised excavator

repower what you have with a non-computer engine..most industrial diesel engines have SAE housings that are standardized based on size and engine horsepower range..to find a excavator machine without electronic engine controls is very rare anymore..little to none left, and what is left is worn...

    Cat 977L endless problems

'endless problems'? a fuel line is just the smallest starting point for an old machine like a 977L..just keep working on it and eventually you'll get to a point where the machine stabilizes and no repairs needed..for a while..then it'll talk to you again..and demand you open your wallet once...
