    Thumb for Cat 235B

I have a 235C. Looks like you need a thumb wide enough to fit the bucket and needs to "mesh" with the bucket teeth. Since the 235 is twice as big (~40 ton vs. 20), even if the thumb "fits" it might take the force of the bucket curl.

    Big oops..

Turning and the "arc" of the implements can be a factor. If using an implement for first time of season, you might forget the offset, turning arc, or height. Of course, always good to slow around power poles.

    Newbie

Generally, there can be operator manuals for sale on ebay. That's where I found mine. Searching the web might find locations that have manuals for sale to be downloaded. Web search will help with finding a thumb for your machine. There are "generic" ones based on the weight of the machine...

My excavator is so old it doesn't make the "older excavators" list :)

    Hydraulic Oil for CAT 235C

Need to top off hydraulic oil in a used machine I bought. Which oil should I use, as I don't know what brand is in it now? CAT website states Cat Hydo Advanced 10. Any other brands that are good alternatives? Thanks for the help!

    New CAT 313 next gen

Congratulations on the new machine! Modern safety features can be a PITA sometimes. I guess you will need to wear it, buckle it, or find a way to complete the circuit as when it is buckled.

    Inspection of used equipment.

I looked into an inspection service when I bought an excavator. As I recall, CAT dealer wanted $275/hr and the private heavy equipment repair shop wanted $175/hr. It is pretty expensive as you pay mileage and their going rate, if they need to travel very far. Also, they won't be "all seeing"...

    international td7 replacement key

If it looks like this, it is the same key as the tractors used from 1950's until the "end". Even lawn tractors had the same key.

Just heard about a diesel shortage?

Everyone thinks hydrogen for fuel cell comes from high school science experiment (i.e. electrolysis of water) but the hydrogen comes from fossil fuel as it is cheaper and more efficient.

    Scam Warning

I like the idea of a bulldozer as a "surprise" gift. I would think bulldozers are like bulldogs and you make darn sure it is the gift the recipient wants before you give it. :)

Just heard about a diesel shortage?

I am sure it started OK from fuel in the line, and ran OK unless the check engine light came on (lol). But starting the engine cold might be a problem base on what fraction of the gas in the tank is actually diesel :)

Just heard about a diesel shortage?

California is getting close to Europe diesel prices. Watching the giro d'italia and at one station diesel was 1.80 euro per liter, about $7.09 per gallon. It used to be that Europe was much more expensive than the US for fuel.

Experience on buying a Machine at Auction

It takes a very skilled mechanic/repairman to diagnose a problem resulting from someone messing something up vs. the failure of a system that initially was working. Also, intermittent problems (usually electrical) seem hard too. Unfortunately, it seems the skilled mechanics/repairmen that can...

Just heard about a diesel shortage?

Google says 5000 pounds (750 gallon) per hour. About 0.67 mpg for plane and close to 100 mpg/passenger. I can do a lot of digging with 750 gallons of fuel.

Poll: Which Asian OEM do you think will give Cat / Deere a run for its money in the next decade?

I would consider Hitachi and Komatsu along with Cat and Deere, but they were not part of the survey.

    CAT 307SSR

I got a simple 1980's 2 series. Newer machines have electronics that control the engine/injector pump. If there is a lever that speeds the engine up, push it all the way it will travel in the opposite direction (slows engine down), and engine should stop running. Perhaps move past the "turtle"...
