    Memories for us old truckers

Wow, I had no idea someone already thought of that back then. Guessing there was some sort of Lovejoy coupling half on the back of the truck that engaged with another on the trailer to power it? Or maybe a winch on the truck and to get the tub back on the trailer you pulled the cable to the back...

    Crazy truck prices

I used to haul chips and sit next to other trucks for an hour or two at a time at the mill. Even on mild days guys won't shut their trucks off. They tap the throttle to reset the auto shutdown from time to time and once I heard one start to shut off but he must have been quick enough to click...

1997 Ford LT9000 tandem dump truck

I've often wondered that, too. I've had to change filters in the middle of the day and had nothing but red fuel in available to fill them with.

    Small crawler crane

I meant to say the boom swings. I'm thinking it started it's life like one of these, but not this model.

    Small crawler crane

I'm fairly certain it does swing. I see what looks like a horizontal bull gear under the boom foot behind that pallet that I think would swing it. The appears to have a vertical pin that the boom hoist sheaves would swing on. Austin Western, Wilford, and Insley off the top of my head built half...

Somebody turned it sideways for backfilling pipeline trenches, maybe?

    Galion 104H

Great story and it looks like a great score! Glad it didn't go to the scrapper. I don't know much about those machines but looking forward to hearing and seeing more about what you're up to with it.

    Memories for us old truckers

Closer inspection shows the bed has been extended with planks to allow 15 more boxes. If it's a 1918 truck, maybe it's because of the Spanish Flu?

Sizing pull type equipment to crawler vs wheeled tractors

I approve of the tractor and the roller.

The place I work sold out

In my experience, insurance doesn't kick in right away for new hires. Since you aren't really new hires, it might be different and if this is their first time buying out another company, it's possible they may not have thought of this situation until now.

1997 Ford LT9000 tandem dump truck

Maybe this picture might give you some ideas for a hitch? Your truck sounds a lot like one I drove years ago. It was a KW T-450 spec'd pretty much like yours. Rode like a buckboard but it was still fun to drive and man, was it handy on a job site. Load it up until the dirt was rolling off and...

    Operators too good to clean.

It always makes me happy when I roll up to a machine to move it and I get to be the one to shovel the tracks and I've got a full day already. Usually not a problem when the machine has a regular operator, but when it's a machine that anyone runs, usually young guys, all bets are off. Years ago...

    Different transmission configurations

I remember reading a dash plate that said not to use the low hole in high range or damage can be done. I don't remember what the tranny was. I use it from time to time but try to avoid it because of that even though I've never noticed any noise. Was that just for a certain transmission or a...

1997 Ford LT9000 tandem dump truck

Did you transpose those numbers? Most of the trucks at work have 18s and two still have 13s. We spend a lot of time on steep ground and when I get in a truck with a 13, it's not very long before I'm wishing for an 18.

Cat 120G Serial Number lookup, Blade questions

I had no idea that was just an option. You could get by without it but I'd miss it. I guess it would come down to if the price and condition of the machine are good enough to offset not having it. The inner spacers are standard. I'm looking at the spacer between the two levers on the left. I can...

1997 Ford LT9000 tandem dump truck

I've never used a barn door but high lifts are downright handy. Can even use it to lift stuff like plate compactors or buckets in the back with a chain fall or comealong if you have a place to hook on the top of the tailgate.

    Small Tractors? Massey Ferguson 230?

Drill a hole through a short (6ish inches, whatever looks right) piece of pipe or tubing for a pin, then weld it vertically wherever you can near the hitch. Take another piece a couple feet long or whatever length you need that's a smaller diameter to fit nicely inside the first piece and drill...
