Good old Iron versus new stuff

I haven't posted here in some time, been very busy, computer died, etc. After years of running mainly 627B and 621B model scrapers, this winter after layoff I was sidelined with hip joint surgery. Running stuff with questionable maintenance and poorly working seats got me to decide I wanted to...

    DW20's

Bringing this thread back from the dead, the DW20s in question had a device like the later 630-666 models . This old brochure calls them Tractionaiders, which I'd guess was their trade name.

    DW-10 Bottom Dump Wagon

Dave Grid in Seward Nebraska may be of help as he stored an early DW10 scraper a few years ago. The wagons probably were built by the Athey company. I'll dig thru my old literature and see if they feature them. Hope this helps.

    Is this blade worth fixing?

I was going to say, consider putting a blade from an International TD15C or newer on, they have more curvature and roll dirt better than the Cat design. But I see you've already started reconstruction, so I wish you the best of luck and hope the work goes smoothly. That, buy the way, is about...

    La Crosse Trailer

That would be very cool to see when you get time to do it. Mine has been hauled to Kansas to a safe place. I hope to get to it someday!

    Cat 666 traction control

I also saw a system like this advertised on some very late DW20's called Tractionaiders. The ones you described were an option, how popular I don't know. Described as an option in my 600 series literature. I have a friend who worked for JA Tobin in the Kansas City area, who described using it...

    Cat- LeTourneau Westinghouse scraper- dozer

3 different scrapers were used with both tractors. Le Tourneau-Westinghouse, Euclid and Curtiss-Wright. They also make aircraft, or did. The tractors and the scrapers were made for the US Gov. under separate contracts. Out tax dollars at work.

    cat scraper tractor-sheeps foot roller

That has to be the one. Small world. Was it built from a scraper or was it always a roller? Just curious. Sorry to hear about the friends losing their jobs. Lot of that going around. Happened to me too.

    cat scraper tractor-sheeps foot roller

Talk about full circle.. the 621B unit I posted a while back has been bought by my current employer for it's tractor. Now owned by JC Excavation in Kennard, Nebraska. They bought it at an IronPlanet auction to get the tractor to repower one of our scrapers. Just an interesting little anecdote...

    Help identifying 977 model

Powershift? It's an H. Direct drive.. 977 D or E (20A serial number). They look similar but the H was powershift only. Nice loader. Lever or pedal steer? Alan

In the seat starting dashboard fuel shutoff d4 7u

Believe it or not don't count out the Cat dealer. I've bought parts for my 1954 D2 and they had more than I would have thought. Having access to a parts manual for the unit will help. Also check out the Antique Caterpillar and ACME forums. Hope this helps! Alan

    1965 P&H Stik-Clam.

I believe the restored unit belongs to Dave Geis of Seward, Nebraska. He restored one similar to this a few years ago and they are unique machines! Nice to see some were saved.

    Killdozer. Movie, 1974

Sorry 'bout that Mitch, just goes to show you never know where a tread might go on a forum like this! "We now return you to the regularly scheduled program already in progress....."

    Killdozer. Movie, 1974

Now that sure isn an interesting post! As to "having" to tube frame or front stub a Vega to V8 it.. that isn't true. If you are going to make one extremely fast maybe.. but it's not reguired. A pair of frame connectors should be.. but Don Hardy sold plenty of kits (and still does, by the way)...

    Killdozer. Movie, 1974

In the original story the driver of the car was a sort of a meek, mild mannered guy who never drove fast, and the car wasn't identified by brand but was a low option, low powered salesman's car. He just wasn't used to driving at high rates of speed and kept slowing down, They did a pretty good...
