    580B sluggish transmission fix

A lot of good info here, I have a 580B and have the same problems in cold weather. I will try the rear wheels trick and see how that works before I change the oil out in the tranie.

How to lock the boom, 580B

Hello N175H When I first got my 580B I too found it difficult to lock the boom. What brought it home for me was to raise the rear end up with the outriggers. Run the machine at half throttle and bring the boom back fast then forward. After a few practices it will become second nature...

    Homemade OROPS

Jeff D, What you are experiencing with 7018 is normal. I use 6011 for vertical and overhead but, I admit tough slag to chip. Layflat is always 6013 for me, never had a problem with strength and the slag will blow off with a strong wind.

    snap ring pliers?

Pliers Fifteen years ago I bought a set from Mcmaster Carr. They came two in a plastic case, one large and one small. They are both internal and external, and the change is real simple to make. I have put them through many years of hard use and they have never failed me. I looked on the box...

    Repairability of older models

Older Units Seagull, I have a 1973 Case 580B and have not had any problems getting parts for this backhoe. You will find older backhoes due require a lot of TLC to keep them running. I would stay with the more popular brands Case, Cat, JD etc. They seem to have a good network of dealers...
