    Deere 4.219 engine for sale

Hi folks, I'm selling a JD 4.219 GAS-O-LINE engine / front clip. It's in the classifieds, I just thought I'd post here too. Here's the link to the CL ad: https://denver.craigslist.org/grd/d/littleton-john-deere-4219-gas-engine/7723485201.html

Anybody ever try to fix cavitation holes in sleeves?

This is exactly what I was wondering this morning. I have a similar chat going on a yesterday's tractors forum, and one guy mentioned that the pitting is always in the same spot on these sleeves, and I recognized he was right, and never wondered why until now. I suggested one of the reasons...

Busted! Let's just say it's a good thing my shop is tiny :)

Anybody ever try to fix cavitation holes in sleeves?

I know, right? Growing up broke is what made me a mechanic in the first place!

Anybody ever try to fix cavitation holes in sleeves?

Because I'm a glutton for punishment. You should know that by now :)

Anybody ever try to fix cavitation holes in sleeves?

You got a solid point there. In the time I have messed with it already this morning, I coulda gone out, done a job, and made the $ to buy the parts. Yeah this is dumb.

Anybody ever try to fix cavitation holes in sleeves?

It's called SCA additive. I think SCA actually stands for "Supplemental Coolant Additive". I have no idea what it is, chemically, but that's what you need for wet sleeve engines. I call it the pink stuff. A 4.219 kit is around a grand, so we're not talking big bucks. Why would you think it needs...

Anybody ever try to fix cavitation holes in sleeves?

Hi folks, I've worked on 4 or 5 of these old 300/400 series mechanical Deeres over the years and every one of em has failed for the same reason; the user put the wrong coolant in, and the cylinder liners cavitated. For the record, it's not a design flaw of the machine. I'm quite fond of these...

There's no making me happy - this has nothing to do with machinery.

Oof. I tried to fix that last post right away, but it wouldn't let me. In any case, the economics of solar is sound and it's happening. Y'all have a nice weekend.

There's no making me happy - this has nothing to do with machinery.

6-7K tax rebates for 4 years is the ROI at this moment. No energy company is going to buy back energy, I don't believe I ever said that. If I did, it was in error. Excel Energy will this point, give you a credit based on KWH and time of day and time of year. That rate changes when the wind...

There's no making me happy - this has nothing to do with machinery.

It's definitely happening. No issues mounting to a shingle roof, no issues for a firefighter :). Half the homes on my block have em. With the $6-7K tax incentives, ROI is 4 years, just from that. Entire system is guaranteed for 20, even the installation. If my system goes down or gets covered by...

Because of the tax breaks, it is subsidized. For now anyway.

How to properly measure solenoid coil current.

Oh! I totally glazed over the proportional thing. That used to be called a synchronous setup right?. Not to oversimplify, but a guy would turn a dial 10degrees and a valve or whatever would move 10 degrees. Something like that? Weren't they usually multi-phase input devices, delta wound and the...

How to properly measure solenoid coil current.

Now you got me wondering about this. Would an AC solenoid valve even work? I think so. The iron in the valve is responding to the magnetic field generated by the coil. It doesn't care about the polarity of that field, it's just moving because the field is there (or not). So, an AC coil could do...

How to properly measure solenoid coil current.

I'm confused. You're powering a coil (DC) with a PWM source (AC), and you want to know whether to use a peak reading or RMS? I think that would depend on what you're trying to accomplish. Pretty old memory here, but RMS is calculated by taking the p-p reading (AC) and dividing by the square root...

There's no making me happy - this has nothing to do with machinery.

It's getting harder and harder for me to trust people. I had a guy come over to my house to talk to me about installing solar. here in Colorado, that actually makes good sense. I sat through this shpeel, and he sent a guy out to inspect my roof, and my power and all that a few days later. He...

Strange, interesting and funny stories buying and selling equipment

I was selling a tractor a year or so ago. One of those grey market Japanese mini tractors with a loader, 2 cyl diesel. I had a helluva time finding parts for it, and when I did they were spendy. Not interested in that, so tractor had to go. I wanted 4 grand for it, which was cheap. Guy comes...

    Business is slow this season

I get those calls sometimes, guys calling and asking me to come fix their whatever, and can I give em a deal on this one because they have lots of other business to give me. Every single one of those clowns is full of it. Most of the time, when I do get new legit business, they don't even ask...
