Will need to replace base and poppets, perhaps springs too, then the bundle.

I know it's easy to spend other peoples money, did it for 45 years at the quarry, but I would not even be tempted to reuse those springs.

Just glad to see you found something that seems obvious as to the problem you had.

Made a preliminary parts order thru the KW Dealer again. Parts guys do not know what to make of my orders, generally have numbers and alternate paths for components lined up, they do not have to do much footwork.

Filter base one of three ways, Full assembly, Subgroup assembly with all the small parts but reuse head to engine block adaptor, and blank head with two poppets two springs. The eight rod bolts I had removed, several small pieces I was looking into and priced Cooler bundles as to Cat Price, WAY out of my ballpark so did a Net search by p/n, have 'New' one ordered thru a NY Dealer $535 Shipped or 1/3 the price of Cat New and $300 less than Reman.

G..G..G..Granville.........!! Fetch your cloth.
We had a lot of trouble with wear in the oil pump relief/filter bypass valve seats (circled red) in the oil filter base assembly on C13 engines in 349D excavators, and of course the C13 is a derivative of the 3406. It got to the stage where we were replacing the complete assembly at engine midlife in order to maintain oil pressure.

Wanted a loaded preassembled sub section for this one, Not in inventory but the bare bones housing was. Am satisfied. What I do not get is the housing is Aluminum, wear points will take a beating. Also Made In CHINA!!

The valves are EGP I understand that but allowing a spring to drive that resilient material into a aluminum seat is stupid, would have been easy enough to add SS seats for the valve poppets to seat up to and not require replacement of the head in total every time seat damage occurred. Where it hangs and what it supports the entire assembly in cast steel would be a better choice regardless.

Lots of stuff uses aluminum nowadays to save weight at the expense of durability. Good old cast iron was heavy but lasted a long time. Look how light engine blocks are now for the high hp they get out of them which leads to durability issues. ie torisional twisting and liner counterbore issues on some engines in high-torque applications. If the blocks were heavier and larger water jackets around the liners i feel we would have fewer problems and engines would last longer. Engines run hotter to decrease emissions which causes the entire cooling system to work harder as well as oil coolers, etc. There has to be high oil flow for max piston cooling and load carrying in the rotating assemblies. And now we're talking low viscosity engine oils. All this adds up. Plus, aluminum is cheaper and easier to use in manufacturing than cast iron. Just living in the modern world:(

Intake boot Els to turbo on, harness reconnects in progress and coolant hoses all reattached save the connections at oil cooler

Parts ordered be in Wed, cooler bundle arrived as did trans jack today.
Is a CTP core likely from BesGuesistan or a little known Chinese iron peddler but appears correct sizes to install.
Jack is a OTC, pricing was close enough for off brand names to warrant a name brand and no it is yet still boxed up. Tried to beg borrow or buy a used one, nothing even closely resembling usable and still wanted big coin. Sold a old ratchet style Many Moons ago and was glad the death trap left.

This was bought in case needed remove the entire engine. Can utilize it more now than just that.

And I have LONG Since graduated from do it rough and dangerous style, this is more sensible to me nowadays.

Have to get it outside for that!! Do not have a Hotsy here so will end up taking to local car wash when drivable. LF Drive brake has been frozen Applied since arrived, once engine is up and viable then on to brakes. Have to pick my battles strategically currently.

WWW.
What did the sealing material look like for the cooling tubes in that oil cooler bundle? If it was soft and disintegrating it was bound to
start leaking internally? Age really gets to those. Same as my trans jack-you will be glad you spent the money. Best jack there is. Plus
way safer to use.
