So Ive got a 1994 western star 4964 that needs a fan module. Motor is an N14 cummins. This module is roughly the size of a pack of cigarettes and has 6 wires coming out of it. Also has 3 lights on the back side. Red, orange, and green. It bolts to the outside firewall above the steering shaft, basically right in front of the driver. From what I can read on it, it was made by pacific insight electronics, there are a few numbers on it, but the only one that is really legible is 6124. Ive tried numerous parts houses and western star dealers and seem to be at a dead end. Does anyone know of a source for this part, or whether it can be bypassed?

Thank you!

I'm surprised a western star dealer can't provide any info on it if you gave them your VIN. Usually they can tell you if its superceded or NLA. Is this for the engine fan?

Im told its the fan module. It seems strange though as its just a mechanical fan with an air solenoid. Im guessing it does more than just run the fan as it wouldn't run until the previous owner did some simple wiring to get it to start and shut down. Ive spoken to some really good parts people and they're saying its NLA, the truck is just too old.

generally takes input from a temp sensor and air conditioning to activate the fan solenoid possibly also cycling the ac clutch

Fan can be done with a old fashioned temp switch screwed into the head somewhere and or the basic toggle switch deal

I temporarily bypassed the ecm once( because it controls the fan) on an N14 Celect by installing an old-fashioned fan stat. It worked good. I eventually found the problem and put it back to original but left the fan-stat in the head in case i ever needed it again

We were thinking maybe it had something to do with the directional signals, but with a new flasher and some wiring those are now working. Probably will just hook up the fan with a fan stat and a cab switch. It doesn't have AC so that's not an issue. its only going to get a couple thousand miles a year on it so I think were in good shape. Its a 94 with over a million miles, its going to need some love occasionally. Thanks for all of the help!
